Hello all, I am currently 39 years old and over the past 5 years my hair has dramatically thinned. I am betting more than 60% thinner.

I have had long hair my whole life, middle of back length and my hair is straight, so I can see the effects more than say a person with curly hair.

What should I do at this point? Should I just let it go it's course, or should I try to stop the process? Can the process be stopped and can it be reversed?

Without the ability to go back to what I had 5 years ago, I don't see much sense in trying to salvage or even grow a few little spots. I am not even sure with my straight hair it's even plausible. It's very evident I am balding in spots, my front hairline and the top of my head have visible bald areas under the remnants of thinning hair.

I guess I am looking for options and a few opinions as to what I should do.

The Big 2 (Finasteride and Minoxidil) are usually more effective in younger men, but there's no reason why you shouldn't try them. They could well help - they do for a lot of men.

Until your 50's or so... I believe your chances of success on proven treatments are just as good as anyone's. I see no reason why a 39 year old who has been losing hair for 5 years would have any poorer results than a 25 year old who has been losing hair for 5 years.

Just to play devil's advocate, there is no big 2. Nizoral should never, ever be left out of the equation. I realize you were just commenting on two parts of the big three though :) Just want to be clear.

Most importantly, original poster, anywhere that you still have hair can be thickened. So count yourself fortunate that you're thinning. Propecia, Rogaine Foam, and Nizoral for 12 to 24 months should give you extremely satisfying results. Expect it to get worse the first 6 months, ride out the sheds, ignore the roller coaster of good and bad weeks, and take baseline photos to keep your perspective.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, do you really think these products will make a difference? I mean, I clearly have balding areas will I regrow hair in those spots? If not, I cannot see spending all that money.
