Hi All,

Last year, I randomly noticed two small bald patches towards the back of my head. I saw my gp who mentioned "alopecia areata", and then a dermatologist (who I now work very near to!). He did an examination, I asked some qs, gave me protopic cream, and the patches went away roughly a few months later. Had a blood test too, and the only thing that came up was a low platelet count.

Fast forward a year and a bit to now, and during a haircut, I notice a tiny bald patch at the top of my head in a new space. While it's like 1cm big and easily disguisable with my hairstyle (which is straight and short), it's worrying and makes me think if there's an underying issue. I had 2-3 weeks of stress at work (got that issue sorted out so no more stress), so I do not know if that was/is an issue (was just befoe the haircut), however everyone has stress! I've had my fair share every now and then in transient moments, but it passes! I am also on tenterhooks if I get more patches!

I am seeing a gp next week, but my question is, does anyone know how to help prevent this? And what's a good treatment? Everything is reported to not work or have low success!

I went through a stressful period 10 years ago and at the same time I lost a handful of hair everyday. It was ridiculous. I wonder now if it was the stress or my hair saying "time for us to go". lol ;)

Hello Blade11 and welcome,

from all that I've read , the only advice that I can give you is not to rush into any treatment without being sure of what you are suffering from.

if it is stress and stress only , just forget about the hair-loss treatments because it would get settled by itself with time.

Thanks for the re-assurance. Just a few qs:

Where my temples are, and also my eyebrows, I've noticed my hair has been thinning. Would this grow back?

If I rub my hair, I don't really see any hairs come out. If I put the cream on the affected spot on my scalp, I may see one or two short hairs on my finger (very contradicting as hairs should be growing when I put cream on, not vice versa!).

I have a gp appointment next week too.
