Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, I'm mostly using the forums in my country.
My story in short: (altough it should be in the tell my story)
I'm 26 years old and started to lose hair around age of 20 I think, but at this age/period I had my mind in other things and didn't took care of it.
Only at the age of 22 I started to treat my hair loss, tried generic minoxi solution and didn't liked it because of the motorcycle helmet and the fact it kept my hair looking wet and straw.
So, started to use propecia, 1 mg until today (almost 4.5 years, no side effects). my borhters also taking propecia (24 and 20) altough one of them have great full hair but had a small hair loss which I think was temporary.

I lost the front hair line, the next 1/3 and in the vertex.
Since I start took the propecia, my hair loss just froze.
At july 2011 I did hair transplant in Israel, fut procedure, I think about 1000-1300 grafts to the front and the temples.
It looked much better altough the transplant was not high quality and there was lot's of pluggy hairs.
So before a month (march 2014) I did another hair transplant, fue in HDC cyprus.
That was a whole different world in the terms or quality, 3053 grafts (about 2700 to the front and the rest to the crown).
I had to shave my all head for the fue. (this way I found out how bad was the first transplant)
Currently the new hairs fell off and only in a few months I will be able to see the results.

Anyway, I started this week to use Finax (Dr.reddy's) 1 mg since the MSD propecia is expensive in Israel, hope to keep the good results.
I also bought rogaine foam and I will give it a try again from next week.
Next week I should get the MSM, SILICA & BIOTIN I ordered, I read it may help to the hair grow faster (since I had to shave the all head) and Revita shampoo (good or you suggest anything else?)

But my main issue is, should I try Dutasteride ?
I read a lot and found that 0.5 mg of Dutasteride is more effective even than 5 mg Finasteride .
I still don't understand a few things:
1) There is DHT in the scalp and in theblood serum, which is the most important to block? or both?
2) According to Bernstein medical, Dutasteride 0.5mg/day decreases serum DHT 91% and scalp DHT 54%. Finasteride 5mg/day decreases serum DHT 71% and scalp DHT 38% ( so 1 mg of Finasteride is even less, anyone know numbers?), Is that right ?
3) How long Dutasteride and
Finasteride stay in the body?
4) Is there any different side effects from the propecia ?
5) Is it worth/logical to take both?

I would like to hear you thougts.
Thanks.

dutasteride is only 20% more effective than finasteride, but also presumably has a higher risk of side effects. This is .5mg dutasteride daily.
1. DHT will not get into your scalp from the blood so blocking it in the blood works. Doesn't matter whether you block it from a topical, which stops it in the scalp or a pill which stops it in the blood. The goal is to minimize DHT's ability to get to the hair.
2. Yes that is right but dutasteride is 20% more effective those other numbers don't really matter unless you want to know the why behind that answer.
3. Dutasteride stays in the body for months. Finasteride is much shorter, I believe maybe a few weeks, but I am not sure for finasteride.
4. Yes supposedly. They are the same sides but dutasteride has higher risk.
5. No. If you take dutasteride, there is no point in taking finasteride with it.

Your brother's hair loss wasn't temporary. I assume propecia regrew his hair. male pattern baldness doesn't get better with time untreated.

Thanks zzzzz, now things are more clearly.
Is there any liver problem with dutasteride ? because if it's just like the finasteride I don't care to try it.
If I will decide to start dutasteride, should I just stop propecia and start taking dutasteride ?
I can get : Cipla Duprost, Intas Pharmaceuticals Veltride, Dr. Reddys Dutas, Ranbaxy dutagen. Do you recommend a specific one ?
Btw, my 24 brother thought he start to loss hair in the crown, that's why he start to treat with propecia, today he have a great and full hair, just a very small "hole" in the vertex, which every doctor claim it's normal but he don't want to take the risk by stopping the propecia to check it.

dutasteride is similar to propecia. Not sure if it has additional risks to liver but I do know it is processed or something in the liver. I have heard of good results from Cipla and Dr. Reddy's, but that is all I know. Stop taking propecia when you start taking dutasteride

dutasteride is definitely more dangerous but definitely more efficacious. The reason being it is 3x more powerful at inhibiting 5 Alpha reductase type II(the main reason for Androgenetic Alopecia). However, the drug also inhibits type I 5 alpha reductase to a similar extent, although this type of dht is not relevant to androgenic alopecia and is present in the brain. Overall, dutasteride inhibits up to 95% of overall dht compared to 60-70% with finasteride, making dutasteride very dangerous in my honest opinion. I've heard people on forums stating that dutasteride side effects were 100x worse than their finasteride side effects.

yes but still most people who take dutasteride do not get side effects. I am taking dutasteride .5mg a day, and have no sides. You do potentially run the risk of having your sides run for months after discontinuing treatment however due to it's long half-life in the blood. Also, if you decide to take dutasteride never donate blood
