I'm a 21-year-old male and have been keeping a close watch on my hairline since last year for any early signs of recession or thinning hairs. Though both my grandfathers still have heads full of hair, my father began to notice his balding around age 40, so I don't know whether or not I'm going to go through male pattern baldness.

Here's what my hairline looks like right now. I've wetted my hair slightly and parted it to the sides so everyone can see the "corner bits" more clearly. http://i56.tinypic.com/6ftbuw.jpg

Does anyone see any signs of recession at all?

Looks like a mature hairline, 90% of men go through this at some stage of there life. You have nothing to worry about.

Thank you for the reassuring posts. :)

About mature hairlines... I thought that they usually begin to develop around the mid twenties and become noticeable around the late twenties. However I'm only 21 right now.

Its more common for people in there mid to late 20's to reach a mature hairline, but a mature hairline can begin from any age. I've seen a good few teenages with hairlines at norwood 2 (mature hairline). I was a norwood 2 at 22 so its not that unusual.

Right in the front middle part shows some kind of patch that is often left intact in bald men. Or am I seeing wrong?

Also, at the upper temporal area is receded although it may have been like that all along.

Everyone else seems to be telling me that these are signs of a maturing hairline.

You can create a baseline reference by taking pictures now and noting the camera settings, exact location and lighting and time of day, the angle and distance from the camera. so the next time you take a pic, there's something to compare it with. And you have to use the same camera next time.

Thanks for the tip, though I'm still a little unsure of what you were trying to tell me in your previous post. Are you saying that I'm showing signs of recession?

No. :) It's possible that it may have been like that all along. So it;s best to make it a reference point.
