New haircut - how short to go?

I usually have my hair cut to about the length in these pictures. The first picture is how I normally style my hair, the second is deliberately parted to show the thinning bits and the third shows the temples.
It's quite short - back and sides shaved on a no 2 and cut slightly longer then a no 3 length on top. I was thinking of getting it even shorter because people have said I suit really short hair. I'm a bit worried how it will look though because as you can see I'm about a Norwood 2.5 to 3 at the temples with some thinning at the front middle. I've got thick hair everywhere else but everyone knows that the shorter the hair the worse your hair loss looks and at least with the length in those pictures I can style it to cover the thinning bits (to an extent). If I cut it too short do you think it's just going to look like I'm completely bald at the front?

go very short on the sides, about a 1 or a 2. You don't want to sides to be thick and top thin thats just gonna bring out your thinner more, so keep the sides short and the top a bit longer

Leave your hair that length on the top for now. Shave the sides down to a one closest to the ears then blend to a two as you go up. It will make the top look a lot thicker.

Looks a little too thin on top to me for that cut, i think you may be at the shaving it stage..just my opinion.

If i were you I would shave it and use the big 3 for a year or so then try to grow it out again.

Yeah. The longer on top and short on sides has been in fashion recently for a good while and looks sharp. Was big in the 90s and even well before that. Makes hair on top look thicker than it is.

Thanks for the replies, even if everyone is confusing me with all this different advice :)! I think I'll keep it a similar length to the pictures with a no1 on the back and sides which isn't much of a change really. You guys have convinced me that going any shorter is too much of a gamble; it may look great but it may look awful. If my current regimen thickens my hair (finasteride and nizoral) I'll think about going shorter but that could be months down the road if it happens at all.

Really? I don't think I'm at that stage yet. I don't think completely shaving it suits many guys and see it as a last resort when your hairs at the stage when you can't do anything with it (NW4 or more), personally. Bear in mind that these pictures were deliberately taken under a harsh light and parted to show the thinning areas. In fact when it's grown out an inch or two nobody notices the hair loss (I've even had comments about my "thick curly hair" when it's longer lol). But like I said, I suit shorter hair even if it makes my recession look worse.
