Hi all,

For the past 3 months, I have been suffering with a flakey scalp (or dandruff, but I doubt it is this simple).

I have tried everything to get rid of it - I use Nizoral usually 3 times a week, which has not done anything to help. I then started to use Head and Shoulders EVERYDAY for a week, with no improvement. And I also try and brush my hair often to try and remove/loosen the flakes, but to no avail.

It is really bad, i can just keep brushing my hair and it consistently snows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because I think it is contributing to my hair loss.

Thanks

First step: stop washing your hair.

Humans didn't evolve with shampoo/conditioner in mind so we all have our own little protective devices to keep hair and skin healthy. When you wash thoroughly with chemicals each day you are removing the protective oils that your hair needs to be healthy. This will help some.

Second: do you experience dry skin elsewhere on you? (face/hands/elbows/knees/etc)

I used to have the same problem. Try using a Selenium Sulfide-based shampoo and after a week (2-3 uses), even persistent dandruff should be totally gone. For best results, look for a formula that also includes Salicylic Acid and alternate that (Selenium Sulfide + Salicylic Acid shampoo) with Nizoral. I can tell from my personal experience that the fungus responsible for dandruff becomes increasingly resistant to active agents in shampoos and that's why you should probably use a combo.

Oh, and IMO Head&Shoulders is a piece of s**t, try using a pharmaceutical shampoo...
