Need some opinion if I am actually balding?

Hi guys, I am a 28 year old male. Whenever I had a haircut, barbers and stylist will often say I have really thick hair. There are however a couple of them who said that I had really thick hair on the sides and back but my top is a bit fine/thin. Those comments worries me, and have gotten me obsess to know if I am actually balding or its actually something normal.

My parents told me not to worry since balding is never an issue in both sides of the family and its not going to happen. They did admit however that my top is a bit thin but only if you have to focus and observe carefully. They also shrug it off that its something normal since its situated around the crown of the head and most people had something similar but it does not necessarily mean they're balding.

Attached is one of the worst shot I can take. I actually just had a new hair cut and there's actually wax in my hair on the picture.

My dad had something similar but he's not a bit worried. He's really confident that we have no bald genes. This is his picture
P.S. He kind of just woke up in this lol..

What do you guys think?? Cowlick? Balding? Or its just normal?

Yeah the crown can be hard to gauge. Do you have any older pics to compare. If not you can take pics over the next year and see. Or you can get your hair cut shorter to see if there is a pattern or more thinning in a larger area.

I think it is some very minor/early thinning man. Although the hairs are going in different directions you can see some thinning past where they "grow" (if that makes sense).

How fast does it usually spread? Cause I also started to observe my hair somewhere early last year due to a comment from the barber who was offering me a hair spa to cure it.

My other phone that has the pictures of my hair during that period broke of. :( I don't think however that it has worsen though :/

Did I have something similar from my dad? If so, I guess I can take a breather somehow since we might just have a similar crown? He is in his 50's and it doesn't quite seem he is balding.

If it is indeed thinning, is this something normal as a person ages but it doesn't necessarily mean that its going to bald? Would a normal over the counter shampoo be able to fix this? I am not sure if you guys have heard of a Gugo Shampoo, it is made from a tree that is said to promote hair growth from my country.

its hard to tell tbh, I see a lot of asians with very defined cowlicks that are not suffering from hairloss. What is the state of your hairline? Typically crown loss is not associated with normal aging unlike the commonly experienced 'mature hairline'. If you are losing hair in your crown (which is far from proven at this point, maybe you should shave your head so you can observe the hair as it grows) unfortunately a shampoo isn't going to do much. Finasteride will be the only long term solution, albeit a very effective one especially in the crown area.

My hairline seems to be fine, its not receding or anything (for now, I hope it stays that way lol). I always have a widow's peak.

It's just really my crown area that I am bothered about.

Although I seem to look better with short hair. I am pretty scared to shave it all off haha... I am also pretty sure my friends will start to ask what's my problem :)) Its kinda embarassing to say I think I am balding.

My fam is also starting to get kinda annoyed and say that it's all just in my head. :/

I've heard about Finasteride, but there seems to be a lot of nasty side effects for taking it and I don't think it's quite worth it yet as of the moment when I am not yet sure about the status of my hair.

Is there no other way? Like just a minor treatment or perhaps a shampoo I can use regularly that will prevent it from further thinning?... I've been seeing aloe vera, castor oil and stuffs.

The first barber that told me my top was thinning was probably early last year. He was pushing me for a "hair spa treatment service", it's like he is saying to go for it or suffer further thinning. I did not went for it that time though... since I felt he was upselling me. Is there however such a thing?? I believe the way he does it is massage the head and put some stuffs in it. I did not go back to him after that though because I got quite annoyed during that time since he kept on repeating it to me.

If your hair is thicker on the back and sides and thinner on top then that's obviously a bad sign, possibly your barber giving you a hint. You may not have recession but you may be a diffuse thinner. With diffuse thinning, it may not be apparent that you're balding until you've lost 30-50 of your hair density. Partings and cow licks are often a give away.

Hmm... I am not quite sure what it means since I am new to this. I however got the impression that cow licks are just normal from reading post? Does this also mean my dad may be having a problem with his hair base on the picture?
