Hi all,
I'm new here and would like some advice. I've started to lose my hair and I don't feel good about it.
I still have a fair bit of hair, don't get me wrong, I'm not bald or anything. But I have a receeding hairline which I dealt with OK but now the front is starting to thin out a bit also.
The amazing thing is most men in my family went bald in their late teens or early 20s. My brother beat their record and thinned out at 24. I'm now 33 and it's only started happening, although the receeding bit has been going on for a while. I don't understand why it hit me so late, I've had a bad diet for ages and it's only when I started fixing my diet that it started happening.
To me this isn't just a physical thing, it's also a mental thing. I'm very attached to my hair (pardon the pun) and I want to keep it as long as possible. Being without it makes me very upset. I'm constantly looking in the mirror to see if it's thinning (at least 2-3 times a day) and whenever I run my hands through my hair and some comes out I'm gutted.
I've looked into options and saw people went and got Propecia etc etc so I went to my doctor, told them my concerns and he said to go to a hair clinic (and wouldn't give me Propecia). I went there and they were telling me how "bad" and I should feel bad about it and I would be bald within 2-3 months... Needless to say this was just marketing spin and i'm still here with a fair bit of hair. They wanted close to $6k for a solution that would last me 6 months (and 2k every 6 months after) which had a "fairly decent" success rate. Needless to say they couldn't even guarantee it wasn't some placebo water or anything, just that it worked for some people so could work for me. $6k is a lot of money for a "could work" scenario. Hell, it's 1/7th of my yearly wage.
So, I need your help. What do I do? I've noticed some people saying minoxidil... whatever it is. But I've also seen people saying if you apply it to spots with current hair the hair will fall out and "possibly" regrow... that doesn't sound too good at all.
I know I should be grateful for the amount of hair I have left, and I am, but I'd just like to keep it before it all disappears.
Please help?
Thank you.
