Hello. I have been losing my hair since my early 20's... noticeably for the past 3 or 4 years (27 now). I started on Dutasteride in May 2009, 0.5mg ED. I'm also using Nizoral ED. I shed a lot on the Duta, not sure if it's ever going to be the same. Since this was a big step and is now appearing to not have worked, I'm trying to figure out what to do.

I will stay on Duta as I am no longer losing any more hair than I'd consider normal. Transplants scare me because I know I will continue to bald and I don't want to be bald around my transplanted area, nor can I afford 10 transplants to keep up with it.

As I'm writing, I'd imagine most responses will be to just stay to course, hope it doesn't get much worse and shave it off eventually. Anyway, what are some opinions? How are so many people getting hair transplant but I see very little complaining about being bald around their treated area? Has anyone been on Duta 8 months with little success only to have a lot of regrowth later down the road?

Here are some pics. Thanks.

When I started Duta:

Why did you choose dutasteride instead of finasteride/minoxidil/nozoral combo? Your hair has gotten worse, I'd suggest trying out big 3 instead.. also, why not just buzz your hair, it would look much better.

Duta is stronger. Many suggest Fina first because the risk of sides is lower. I decided to go stronger first, if I had sides, I'd go with Fina. No sides. I am using Nizoral; I have used minoxidil with decent results...it was messy so I stopped but I am strongly considering starting again.

Yes my hair has gotten worse, that is why I posted. Buzzing is a difficult decision...I am tall so women don't usually see it and honestly, that's all I really care about. Keep in mind, the pics kinda throw the top in your face. From the front, it's OK. Temples are bad but would be no better by shaving. Crown would be better though.

I think you should add Rogaine in there as well if you dont see any positive results. Both finasteride and dutasteride are effective so you dont have to switch to finasteride if you ask me...If you do decide to change then do get a Doctor's opinion first.

I think Rogaine would do wonders in your DHT affected regions....So yes considering you might be a Norwood 4 or 4.5,I would suggest you get on Rogaine soon to see better results. :)
