Hi guys

I am a 29 year old from the UK. I have what I thought could be described as a full head of hair, but after a couple of comments from the hairdresser and one from a collegue at work about my crown thinning, I thought it was time to take a look.

It certainly seems like its thinning a little and the crown is now visible - I have spent a lot of time looking at it in the mirror and was inconclusive for a while if I was losing - but think I was in denial.

The reason I never worried, was because when I look at myself from the front I have good hair and people always comment on how I only look about 24!! I have absolutely no recession anywhere else except directly at the crown area.

But I really feel I should do something about this to stop it in its tracks, as my hair means so much to me!!

So I bit the bullet after hours of research and have bought Propecia which I have decided to half and go with 0.5mg per day....

....and I just bought Nizoral 2% from my local chemist.

I am sh***g it to start on Propecia - but my hair means so much, my confidence etc. It really is a big thing.

I guess I want a little confidence that the regime I have chosen after this research is the right one after all these hours of research!!

This forum has been so helpful, so far!!

Regards

Steve

Sounds like your situation is ok.

Your lucky you've only got a little thinning on the crown.
The meds are supposed to work better in that area.

I would'nt worry too much about going on Propecia. Quote from my Doctor who's been on it 6 years "It works very well!".

Anybody would have doubts If they read some of the 'few' horror stories on here.

According to Merck something like 2% of people experience a temporary loss in libido. I'd trust this.

But I would bite the bullet and take 1mg, after all that's what's recommended.

IMO its a mistake to start on only 0.5mg.

Presumably you are worried about side effecects but the vast majority don't get any and if you do they are not permanent.

The sensible course is to take the recommended 1mg and only drop the dose IF you have problems.

0.5mg may not be enough to stop your loss and then you'll be back on here in a few months saying propecia doesn't work.

I have read a lot on this forum about smaller doses of propecia working just as well, so have been thinking it would be worth while starting on Propecia 0.5mg.

I think this means psycologically 2 things:

1. Im not taking the full dose, so less chance of sides and/or not as bad sides; and

2. I have somwhere to go if this is not working, ie double the dose to a full tablet.

Again though I would like to stress how good this forum is and I thank everybody involved.

Its good to have real people with these real issues and to have a soundboard when you feel you can't turn to Docs etc for more specialised advice.
