Need Opinions

Hi Guys,

I need advice. Perhaps 8 months ago, I purchased a new hairdryer that didn't frizz my hair as much, and I started noticing (perhaps I'd never noticed before), that my hair was thinner, particularly around the crown. I didn't use to have a visible crown, but whether it was less frizz, or hair loss, it became visible. Hair started falling out, lots, all the time. My hair used to be shoulder length, and I cut it, and I really only started noticing how much it fell out when it was cut.

Anyway, I think my temples are receding, it definitely feels like there is less hair there. Also my sides, above and around my ears, are thinning, like madly, and I can easily pull 2-5 hairs out, if I punch an area around there. Very scary.

Heres a photo, if anyone had any opinions.

I'm not sure if I should get on some pills. And I can't really find anyone who has the same thing with me where the sides are madly thinning, and hair is easy to pull out. I'm losing hair of all lengths, and it does seem to be from everywhere, but more so from certain regions.

Any thoughts, ideas, feedback, anything?

I Broke the Mystery of Male Pattern Baldness

It might help if you can provide some more data like age and if you can provide answers to some questions like:
Do you study or work hard? Do you experience stress? Do you engage sports activities? what is your usual diet? Are any of your grandfathers and father bald?

First of all, how old are you?

and second-

Yea u're redecing for sure. The fact that your hair above your ears are thinning is a dead give away, and it's also very clear that your temples are thinning. That is not a "maturing" hairline. A "maturing" hairline does not involve minituarizing hair.

I had the exact same thing going on 1,5 year ago, and I jumped on finasteride and later rogaine to. I managed to regrow my hairline to what it used to be and it has stayed that way since I got on meds.

What I'm saying is...get on meds and do it now. You will see that the thinner hairs at your temples and sides will thicken up and also go back to their normal, darker color since im pretty sure youve already noticed that they are brighter than they usually are?

With meds you can keep your hair looking good for another 5-10-15 years!

Good luck!

I do believe it has been receding at the temples for years, I'm 22 now, and i had noticed slight recession since i was perhaps 16. Very slow though.

My crown area is definitely getting thinner though and that is a recent development. As is the hair falling out, and the sides falling out and thinning.

My diet is reasonable (mixed vegies meat, etc etc), I don't exercise much more than a 30 minute walk each day. My grandfather is pretty much bald, but my dad is almost 60 and has all this hair, although it is thinning / receding. The other males on my dad's side of the family all have thick hair (they are also 50-60 years old). I believe on my mother's side there was temple recession, but nothing else.

Thanks for your replies Captain Combover and freakout.! I will take some pictures as that does sound like a good idea, if at least to monitor things.

Also thanks Winter for your reply. I am booking an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss prescribing me rog/Propecia. In the meantime I've purchased some Nizoral, as everyone seems to recommend it.

Thanks again, and good luck in your own situations :)

Based on what you said I doubt you'll go slick bald, but you're definitely going to have some hairline thinning and temple recession and it might thin even more. There's really no way to know.

When it comes to male pattern baldness, diet and exercise doesn't matter at all. The only thing that matters is that DHT (a derivative of testosterone) attacks your hair follicles if you are genetically predisposed to it. Sadly, we on this site are all afflicted with this curse (I jest, though it does suck).

Rogaine + anti-androgens of some sort are your best hope. You could probably have some crazy success on rogaine and finasteride and wouldn't have to worry about it ever again.
