Not sure if I'm just being paranoid but lately I feel as though my hairline may be slowly receding, although I haven't noticed any significant shedding in the past months.
My crown has always been pretty thin for as long as I can remember. My mates use to tell me I would go bald by 18 but so far it has stayed constant throughout the years. here are some pics for reference, taken directly under bathroom lighting.

My grandad on my mum's side, who is 80 years old, also has a thin crown but still has quite a good amount of hair. My mum and her mother has pretty thin hair with slight thinning in their older age. I'm not too fussed about going bald later in life bout would like to try and keep my hair up till around my thirties if possible. I will take finasteride if needed but like everyone else, I'm pretty anxious about the ED sides.

That does look like some severe thinning at crown there, with some slight recession.
I'm not sure whether to recommend finasteride or just wait and see if it gets any worse.

Minoxidil will cause shedding also and I just don't think it's necessary.

Thing is it's always been like that. Is it possible to have naturally thin crown. either way should I visit my GP?

Also is it possible it's just a mature hairline?

As I said you might as well wait and see if it get's any worse before taking any action to know for sure.
A mature hairline is possible, It just troubles me how severe the thinning is around the crown and the recession which could get worse in the coming months, who knows. Just wait and see, when did you notice that recession?

I would start 1mg or 1.25 finasteride ASAP. Been on finasteride for about 9 years, knowing what I know now wish I would have started a couple years earlier. The key to finasteride is catching male pattern baldness early as possible.

9 years is a pretty long time. have you noticed any side effects? Thats what really has me worried at the moment. I would rather get a buzz cut then have to deal with ED in my twenties.

And @SayifDoit, started noticing the recession start of this year when I turned 20.

As for the thin crown, I'm not sure if its due to male pattern baldness or a head injury I had as a kid since it's been like this for so long. If I go to my GP is there any definite way of finding out?

Also here is a pic of how my hair looks like from the front:

no, that guy is dumb

topical finasteride is garbage also

No actually you are the one who is always wrong here is a study that proves that this Polichem topical finasteride is better and most likely will be safe http://www.controlled-trials.com/ISRCTN19708972/

"It has been proven that P-3074 (a topical solution containing finasteride 0.25%), applied directly on the scalp once a day for seven days, is able to penetrate the scalp skin and to act at the hair bulb level directly, blocking the local DHT more effectively and more consistently than oral finasteride.
The aim of this study is to find out the amount of topical finasteride which could be effective at the hair bulb level while reducing or avoiding the adverse effects known for oral finasteride."
