Hi guys,
I just turned 22, and for about a year I've felt like my hairline was receding. I know people can go through "maturing hairlines", but I didn't want to lie to myself by saying that's what this is if I am in fact balding. I'd really appreciate honest feedback, and If I'm balding I'll jump on the big 3 (broke college student so money is tight, and finasteride sides worry me)
Much thanks in advance, I'm driving myself nuts everyday obsessing over this, and I've always had a big forehead and fine hair. My haircut is now is also much shorter than it was in the past. (tapered to a 2 on the sides, past was a straight 4)
Dad- 48 years old and is a 3A
Mom's dad- 80, full head of hair

I've notice miniaturization along my hairline, but I haven't experienced any shedding or vertex thinning yet.

Your hair looks completely fine man. No worries. Do not stress over it or start treatment. If your crown is thick than you don't have male pattern baldness

OP, your hair looks perfectly good in the pics you provided. I do not see any signs of Male Pattern Baldness.

yes your hairline is receding, especially in the temple area. Don't listen to others on here saying ''its fine your hair looks great!'' it looks great but its still receding so the earlier you do something about it the better

I can propose a natural treatment to treat hair loss.

Consult a professional instead of random people on the internet. You look fine to me, but I could be biased as my hairline is far worse than yours and I am the same age. :)

Anyone who's spent more than a year or two on the forums will, unfortunately, know more about hair loss than your average dermatologist.

Looks like the beginning of a receding hairline in the last two pics to me.

Caught it in good time man.

This is SO true! I've been to quite a few dermatologists and doctors, and they are completely clueless compared to me when it comes to hair loss. One didn't even know what Rogaine or Finasteride was! A complete outrage! She just told me to suck it up and wear a wig (she was a woman in her late 50's with a full head of hair of course). So yeah, I've just stopped going to dermatologists. If I want to learn more about hair and hair loss, I do the research myself. These forums have helped me a lot, there's some really knowledgeable people on here (including you hellouser).

I think you're in the very early stages of balding m8, especially since you have family history.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I'll bite the bullet and go spend the money on Nizoral shampoo and minoxidil. I don't want to hop on finasteride yet, but I'll add it to the regiment if my recession continues. I'm hoping the minoxidil and nizoral would be enough to slowdown what I've got goin on.

Very much appreciated! I just needed some unbiased opinions

Expect a shed with minoxidil. Things will look much worse before they get better (takes about 3+ months to see results with minoxidil, but it varies).

Don't go on minoxidil just yet. Honestly start with Finasteride and Nizoral. It's a lot easier to just pop a pill a day than apply Rogaine twice a day. Plus it is a lot cheaper (you can get 30 5 mg finasteride tabs from Walmart/Target/Walgreens for $9). Take this from someone with minor hair loss like yourself that jumped on minoxidil right away, I highly regret it.

even if you are receding, you have a very strong frontal portion, thats how I know that you will likely have hair to a very late age even if you don't use meds. People who are destined to be bald will usually have a hairline that is looking miniturized the entire way around. You have a rock solid frontal portion and seem to have minor recession at the sides which is very common for a male. Sure you might continue to recede so whether you decide to get on finasteride to try and prevent is upto you, but in my opinion I don't think you are balding in the true sense of the word.

Your hair looks cool but you are receding, it is more noticeable in temples.

What you have to realize before taking advice to "leave it alone it looks fine", is that the current approved drugs for hair loss are just hair loss prevention first and foremost. They will slow down or stop your hair loss, that would be success. Reversing hair loss is completely possible, and has been documented plenty of times by individuals. But they're mainly to slow down male pattern baldness. With that in mind, think long and hard if you want to play catch up a couple of years from now when your recession gets worse, or if you want to do something about it now before it gets too late. We were all once at a certain point where our hair looked nice and cool, but then it progressed into the monstrosity that is Norwood 3-7.
