Hey all,
So I've created a thread 6 months ago, and now I'm making this new one. I've been taking hair vitamins for the past 3 months without any positive results (atleast I think), they didn't help at all. Been drinking green tea, and used specialised hairloss shampoos ( with coffeine, not Nizoral). And to be honest, I think it just got worse. Like my hair can't stop falling. It's like this for the last 2.5 years. Constantly falling out. I would atleast expect that it should atleast slow down at one point, but no. Anyways, I've posted some pics for you guys to see where I'm at currently. I'm thinking about finasteride and minoxidil. Can minoxidil be used at the hairline and the temples? I have a lot of those small ( I think miniturised ) hairs at my hairline and those little light ones. At one of the pictures, you can see how much hair has fallen out in the sink from 15 minutes of combing, shaking, pulling my hair. Tbh I'm very concious about my hair so can pulling it often worsen things even more? You will also see that some hairs are longer than the others. Shorter hairs are at the front of my head while longer ones are above that section. Also, most of hairs that fall out have some kind of yellowish cloth around them, I don't know if that indicates anything. Keep in mind that hair at pictures is very oily cuz i didnt wash it for a couple lf days. Please share your thoughts with me and give me any advice that you may have.

Quick info about me : No one in my family has hairloss ( uncles, grandfathers, etc.. ) my father started thining now at front but its not that critical. He's 50. I have kinda oily hair and skin.

No harm in starting finasteride. Yes minoxidil can be used on the hairline and temples as well and sometimes works. Also get blood tests to find out if you're iron deficient or have a thyroid issue. you might be suffering from chronic telogen effluvium. The white bulb on your shed hairs is sometimes indicative of that.

Please, if you do consider finasteride, make absolutely sure that it's Androgenetic Alopecia. Also do your research on the drug.

Is proscar same thing as finasteride? I do not live in US so we dont have finasteride over here. Can proscar be used as a replacement? Also, this chronic telogen thing. What is it? I googled it but seems that I cant find enough information about it. Is there any specific treatment for it?
I will get my blood test this week as you said, maybe the problem lays there.
Thanks

Proscar is finasteride. Finasteride is the active ingredient. It comes in various brand names including proscar, propecia, etc. Proscar is cheaper so try to get that.

Telogen effluvium is when the hairs shed due to some shock in your system. That shock can be induced by stress, in which case the hair grows back after a few months. Or the shock can be induced by some sort of vitamin deficiency or physical health issue, in which case the hairs won't grow back until the trigger is resolved. Your blood tests will hopefully find what that trigger is. I really hope it is Telogen Effluvium because it's much easier to recover from!

Like Joe said, hold off on finasteride until you've determined for sure you have male pattern baldness. Telogen Effluvium can often look very similar to male pattern baldness because it mostly affects the top of your scalp, but in more of a diffuse pattern.
