Is it safe to use the generic propecia from a Canadian drugstore with costco/kirkland 5% minoxidil? I know this is essentially the same as using rogaine + propecia but the MAJOR cost difference is what's giving me doubts, would it be just as effective? even though it is much cheaper...

Any time you buy online there is a risk. I would recommend you see you Doctor for any meds, it's the safest thing to do my firend. Also Welcome to the Forums!

Thanks for the reply. I did consult a doctor today and he wanted me to use rogaine foam extra strength and brand name propecia. I would have no problem following his recommendation if it were not for the cost issue. After doing some research and some reading of this forum, I came to conclusion that rogaine and the costco brand both contain the same active ingredient, minoxidil. Generic propecia and brand-named propecia are the same thing as well. With all that in mind, I would think using costco/kirkland minoxidil and generic propecia would be a much cost-efficient solution.

Well as far as the Rogaine and Generic minoxidil I agree, they are both purchased in a store so all is good there. With the generic Propecia you would have to buy online and that is where the risk comes in.

Ok I see. I plan to call my doctor and ask if he can prescribe me generic propecia instead. Meanwhile, my mother has two bottles of Rogaine for women and she recommends me trying them before using the men's full strength one, so I can get used to the side effects. Are there anything I need to watch out for if I use the rogaine for women? The only difference I see between the men's and women's is the difference in concentration of minoxidil. Might there be other subtle differences? Also, would there be issues when I eventually transition from the 2% to the 5% if I use the 2% for a month or two? (I am a male)

The only thing you may encounter when switching from 2% to 5% is more hair regrowth :woot: . You are correct that the only diffenence is the amount of minoxidil in each.
