Hey Gang, I've been visiting for about a month now. Thought I'd write about my situation. 34 year old male, started noticing hair thinning 3 years ago. It's been a slow process, but lately (and I mean in the past month) it has gotten extremely bad. My hair right now is as thin and brittle as you can imagine. Especially right after a blow dry. It doesn't feel like hair. It feels like tiny wisps of thin hay. I have severe recession, i mean it is Waaaay back, so when people say to me "Just Shave It" I tell them i can't because of the recession. I started noticing since Christmas My hairline on front is receding or as I was told by a hair transplant specialist "Miniturizing." I guess my hair has been thin most of my life, I just had a LOT of it. So it looked thick. And I could manage it. I can feel it getting lighter daily and I'm noticing a lot falling out. Short hais and long hairs. For the past year or so I've noticed an feeling of almost like "needles" being sticking in my head.

I've been on Propecia for 14 months now. I don't see it doing any help. I understand it might have slowed it but now It's not working. I've tried minoxidil but it left my head tingling and I don't see that working either. Actually I think it might have contributed to my severe recission. I do like nizoral, and I can't say if it works, but it does help, though my head still has dandruff. Not as much as before but some. I dread washing my hair every day. I see a lot of hairs come out in my hands and in the shampoo. Actually it seems my hair has more volume wet then dry. My head where my recession is and my forehead is always quite oily lately as well.

I've tried Folicure Shampoo for the past 5 weeks or so and it seemed the first week or so my hair was thickening. Now it in the state I described above. I can feel my hair loss on my scalp., My hair is now thin and brittle on the back as well Where I always had very thick hair.

Well as you can imagine it's extremely devestating. I'm diagnosed with OCD and manic-depression during my life. But I always had my hair. LoL. Now I'm losing that.

Well that's my story. Trying different cures. I don't know if this is "a "Shedding" phase or if this is truly the beginning of the end. Guess We'll see.

hair recovery takes time unfortunately

how long did you use the big 3 before you gave up?

i too know what it feels like to be ODC and depressed

i try to do my best to stay positive though

stress isn't the best thing for recovering from hair loss

Oh, I haven't given them up. I'm still on them. I decided to ditch the Folicure for now and just shampoo strictly with nizoral. I'm thinking of switching from the minoxidil liquid to the foam. This is not sold in any store near me, I have to order it online.

When I said my hair was always thin, that's not the case. It was thick pretty much for the past 20 years up until 3 years ago. It would grow back very quickly after a cut.

My Recession is not just on the side of my head - the temple area. It's receded UP into the scalp on top of the head.

Anyone have any suggestions? Anything I should buy?

their is a difference in the dosage

1 mg i believe is the standard dosage

I've just started my 15th month taking 1/4 Proscar a day.

5 MG is what the bottle says.

I haven't fully given up the minoxidil. I spray it and rub it over my scalp mostly. But mostly I spary it on the back of my crown because besides the temples which are bare, my back crown is thinning widly also.

I've decided to ask - what is the best thing for regrowing hair on the temples? If it can even be done. My hairline is receding on the front too, a little in the center but mostly the sides. I'd appreciate anybody's prompt response.

the big 3 can grow hair in temples

everyone is different

the temple hair is the most sensitive to dht soo its kind of hard to say

although using topical spironolactone on the hair line and temples may also have promising results as is is suppose to protect the individual follicles

good luck with your treatments

not to hijack this dudes forum

most likely the finasteride didn't cause you to lose more hair than you would without it

your genes may be stronger than these drugs

but i think you thinned out early after treatments because you are going to get alot of re growth

i think you should ride out these sheds and wait for re growth

hope this helps

cheers mate

Thanks bodydysmorphic..

I'm glad I'm getting responses. lol. I want to hear other people's concerns as well.

I'm ditching the minoxidil liquid and going on the foam.

I have a question about the effectiveness of finasteride...it seems the 1/4 pill will dissolve as soon as I put it in my mouth. Is this common? If it dissolves before I swallow it what is it's effectiveness?

I am considering a hair transplant for my temples..even had a consult but I'm waiting to see If I lose much more on front and top...which I fear I am. I'll give it another few months. Then reassess.

how do you keep your cut pills?

out in the open?

do you cut alot at one time?

IMO i dont think it matters that the finasteride dissolves in you mouth as long as the finasteride is still viable (meaning not oxidized or exposed to sunlight and moisture)

using some form of minoxidil product for at least a year is good to assess your situation before getting an hair transplant

you can always get an hair transplant

cheers mate

i what im thinking

it sounded like you cut all your pills when you get them

could you please clarify

finasteride can degenerate with exposure to moisture and sunlight

i suggest you just cut 1 pill every 4 days to ensure "fresh non-tainted finasteride"

I cut them in 1/4 pieces when I get them. I used to have them done for me but the pharmacy girls don't want to touch them. There is no sunlight around them. though.

I saw this in a health store today. The girl said she's seen it work. I might pick it up tomorrow.

Well my Revivogen arrived today. I have a 2 month shipment of minoxidil Foam on the way. I applied Dabur Amla Oil the other night. I'm going to try those capsules because it couldn't hurt. I've herad good things about them.

Of course will let people here know how it goes.

I went through what I consider a bad thinning/shedding period a few weeks ago but my hair seems to have improved. It's even grown a little longer. I'm hoping for some temple regrowth.

We'll see.
