Yes it has been out for 20 years...but most of the people who initially took it no longer do, becuse it stopped working for them. That is the issue really. Propecia is a short term solution for some people. That is about as good as it gets.
what evidence do you have of this? or did you just make it up?

I'm not about to get into some ridiculous argument about the benifits of propecia. If it works for you...GREAT!!! Man, be happy!! If it doesn't work for others....well then it doesn't. What's the problem? It didn't work for me and caused me nothing but grief with side effects. I'm not saying that others will go through what I did...but they need to be aware of the fact that it could...and should at least mentally prepare themselves for it, it case it does happen to them.

My only point is that propecia is a drug....nothing more...nothing less. Think real hard before taking any drug, and make sure you know what the side effects are. Remember that propecia was NEVER intended to be used as a hair loss product. It is a somewhat weaker version of a drug that was being used to treat prostate issues in men. The fact that it was growing hair on a few men they were treating is what got the drug company so exicted. They knew they could make a fortune on it and they have. Good for them, it's a free country.

see, thats a lie right there, they knew when developing this dht inhibitor that dht was also responsible for male pattern baldness, people just make this conclusion because the propecia was released later, Bryan has this in is signature

propecia was not an accidental male pattern baldness drug discovery

rvw, bubka asked you for proof that propecia simply stops working. you couldn't provide it. you are just like all the other big boys on here who refuse to provide proof for your assertions.

Bubka wheres your evidence? They didnt know what the hell caused hairloss untill they discovered that proscar was growing hair on people being treating for prostate emlargement. Thats when they found out dht caused male pattern baldness. Dont talk sh*t.

Just let rvw give hes opinion without attacking him. You have your opinions, he has hes. You dont have to attack everyone that doesnt love propecia. Some of you guys stick up for propecia like its a family member even though you see the evidence of people who have had major problems with the drug. Sometimes i wonder if some of you are employees of the drug companys sent here to attack anyone who doesnt love propecia.

That's ok KiLLuMiNaTi, I'm used to guys like that. They're so entrenched in their own opinions that they don't want to even listen to someone with another point of view. No problem here...no skin off my back.

bubka can you show us where it says proscar stopping hairloss was not found by accident? Please post a reliable source and not some blog from fellow propecia lovers.

what the f*** are you talking about??? it was known before that dht was the corporate before finasteride was made, thus partially of it's creation

i think you are mistakenly mixing up rogain and finasteride, now rogain / minoxidil unexpectedly caused hair growth, thus rogian

hell yeah, that fat *** who weighed 412 lbs dropped dead after taking our meds for high cholesterol, i mean who would think you could link a heart attack with taking our drugs, the liberal court system just needs thrown out, so the free market and cooperations can decide what is best, for you, me, and Ron Paul of course

finasteride was synthesized deliberately after observations of the pseudohermaphrodites in the dominican republic who dont develop hair loss or prostate cancer. nb/ Bryan i apologise in advance if this is not 100% word perfect correct, but thats what my memory tells me.

minoxidil for hair loss was accidental though, i think thats where the confusion sometimes stems from.

Wow.. I’m on this board for 10 minutes and I get some nobody calling me an idiot because he didn’t like my post....which IS based on fact...there have been NO long term studies done on propecia and it’s effects on the human body....look it up! Of course we need to define ‘long term’ here don’t we? I’m not talking about 5 or even 10 years. I’m talking about 15+...show me one scientific study!! Just one!

My, my... aren’t we touch here. I certainly wasn’t trying to upset anyone. I got on this site to see if I could exchange info with other intelligent people (my mistake I guess) who are currently experiencing hair loss, but apparently if you say something someone does not like, you will be shot down. What is this, a grade school class?

This post is directed at Bubba or Bubka (or whatever you call yourself) and all the other so called ‘experts’ on this forum. First, just because you have the time to post a couple thousand times on some hair loss forum it does NOT make you an expert...just a loser who has no life.

Yes, my experience with propecia was not a good one. I shed like crazy for the entire year I was on it. Lost a ton of hair....and all I kept hearing on forums like this was stick with it, that means it is working. That is bull! I got off propecia and a year later...AFTER the drug was out of my system...guess what? My hair grew back and is still there, although still slowing thinning. Everyone told me that if I got off I would be sorry and the shedding would get worse. WRONG! That’s the problem...nobody really knows! Everybody reacts differently to a drug. Even Dr.s’ can’t tell you EXACTLY why sheds occur on these drugs. Oh sure, you will get an explanation....shedding is part of the cycle....blah, blah, blah... Whatever you do guys, if you are shedding and you are into a year of taking this crap...do NOT listen to these self-proclaimed experts....they don’t know what they are talking about. Do the research yourself. I didn’t look into it enough myself, a mistake I will NEVER make again before I put a drug into my body. Propecia DOES mess with your hormonal system! Duhh...even a first year medical student will tell you that taking ANY drug habitually will screw you up. Maybe not now, or even next year....but it will, count on it. It is metabolized in the liver, do you really think that putting that much strain on your liver is a good thing? Get real...Even taking so called ‘safe’ drugs like aspirin daily can mess you up. Of course there are stroke patients and heart attack victims who do take it daily (a low dose), but they are trying to prolong their life, not save their hair...a very big difference.

I’m not saying that everyone will experience a shed or even have a side effect. It might even work well for you....but if you want to talk facts...by all means...here it goes....

All you have to do is check out the http://WWW.PROPECIA.COM website. We can all agree this is NOT some conspiracy theory ridden, anti-propecia website....right? In fact if there was ever a site that would promote it...it would be this site...right?

Here are the ‘facts’, taken from that website...

12-Month results

Moderate Improvement
Propecia 4% Placebo 0%
Slight Improvement
Propecia 34% Placebo 7%
No Change
Propecia 62% Placebo 85%
Decrease
Propecia 1% Placebo 7%

It also mentions that sexual side effects occur in less than 2% of men and says....â€In general use, the following side effects have been reported: allergic reactions including rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the lips and face; problems with ejaculation; breast tenderness and enlargement; and testicular pain. You should promptly report to your doctor any changes in your breasts such as lumps, pain, or nipple discharge. Tell your doctor about these or any other side effects.†But does not mention the % of people who get them. Also....the “changes in breasts†is the well known side effect gyno (or more affectionately known as “Man Boobsâ€)..this does NOT go away after stopping propecia…only surgery can correct that one.....of course they conveniently decided not to include that little tidbit of info.

Anyway, despite that, I will still use the < 2% for side effects in my comparison.....even though Merck does not tell us how many people have the other side effects....Including Shedding! A huge one...and again..just look at the forum here and you will see many guys who have shed a huge amount of hair on this drug. Contrary to popular opinion, it does not necessarily mean that the drug is working! There have been NO studies done to back up that claim!!! People who say that are just repeating what others have said. They have NO scientific proof of that. As I’ve read here....don’t pull stuff out of your ***....back it up!

Now, let’s look closely at the data...
Basically what they are telling you is this....You have only about a 2%, maybe 3% better chance of getting Moderate Improvement (4%) over getting a side effect ( < 2%). Hope I didn’t lose you “Bubbaâ€....find someone who can explain the math to you if I did. Anyway, not odds I would want to play with. As for the slight improvement...are you kidding me?!!! Did you look at those pictures provided?!!! LMAO!! Who in their right mind would pay that much money to risk a side effect and still have crappy looking hair!!! LOL

That’s all the proof anyone should need to get off that crap now!! And it comes straight from the drug company itself.

Of course all I had to do is look at your recent posts and it became clear to me that you are nothing more than someone who gets their kicks from acting tough behind a computer screen. It’s useless even trying to ‘debate’ with people like you because all you do is call people idiots if they don’t agree with you. Of course, the louder people complain the more insecure they are. They have to shout people down because they know if the other person gets the floor they will be made to look like a fool. Another thing ‘Bubba’, I’ve noticed you like to accuse others of not providing data to back up their claims....Well, I can play that game too....I read in another thread where you say someone took finasteride for 15 years and never lost their hair....where’s the proof Bubba? Where’s the scientific data? You didn’t provide it because there is none!! There have been no long term studies done with propecia at all...period. Back up your so called ‘facts’ next time and don’t pull things out of your ***. I also love how you say you ‘speak’ for others on this forum..yet I don’t see any proof of that at all. Oh yeah...you have a few other losers who will go along...but that’s about it.

You no doubt had a rough childhood ehh?...picked on a lot??? Had your lunch money stolen??? Sorry about that....I guess acting tough behind a computer screen makes you feel better. Good for you.

What I really love about sites like this one is that all these losers think they’re experts because they read something force-fed them by a drug company and their so called independent studies. Are you really that naïve that you believe that crap?! Come on....wake up and get a grip on reality. Drug companies are about as trustworthy as the government. I don’t trust them at all..and anyone who takes what they have to say at face value is nothing more than a sheep following the herd. I prefer to think for myself and not let others do the thinking for me.

For everyone who is sincerely looking to take propecia...do yourself and favor and research it on your own...don’t follow the advice of the “Bubba’s†on this site or any other one....and for God’s sake don’t listen to the drug companies!!!

Congrats on being a ‘senior’ poster Bubba. Did you receive your gift yet for that? That is a very impressive display of how long someone can sit in front of a computer and do absolutely nothing. I would love to ‘debate’ issues with you, but that really wouldn’t be fair...as you have the IQ of an amoeba. I’m sure you will come up with some incredibly 'creative' retort to this post.....something like....â€F U IDIOT!â€....I understand, that’s about as intelligent as someone with a high school equivalency certificate can be. Besides, unlike you, I do have a life and I’m not going to waste mine in a completely useless debate with someone who is so blinded by his own ignorance that he won’t even listen to someone else...what are you afraid of I wonder???? No doubt that you just might be wrong and you ARE doing damage to your body. But hey, it’s your body, you can pollute it anyway you see fit. Don’t worry though, years from now when you are dealing with the inevitable effects of putting a drug into your body day after day....year after year (all the while believing the lies perpetrated by drug companies)....I won’t say “I told you soâ€.

I joined this forum yesterday....huge mistake. I’m leaving it today. So have your fun here, as I will not be back (though it would be fun to put you in your place again)....fortunately there are legitimate websites out there where people can have intelligent conversations without the usual militant spin being spewed by people like you. I will not mention them here as I don’t want you to infect those as well. But I do encourage others to search for them, they are out there.

It just occurred to me....maybe you are just a teenager trying to get back at the bullies in his life. If so....it’s time for school....run along now..and oh yeah...don’t forget to give the laptop back to mommy.

Ba bye now....

i almost replied to all the points in that post, as i finished reading it he stated he was leaving now. so not really much point. lets see if he meant it.

one thing though, why is it that people seem so caught on the fact that the longest study for finasteride is only 5 years. why would they need anything longer? very few drugs have a study above 5 years in length, this does not mean they are unsafe. and in the 20 years it has been in use there have been no dangerous side effects pop up. why would they appear at 25? or is it like HM? always going to appear 5 years from whenever the question is asked.
