I am 21 y old with nw3 and before 2 months i made my first hair transplant.
I am taking finasteride for 4 months now.
When i told to my dr about finasteride he told me that is quite dangerus for me to be on it for many years.I may have problems on beeing a father and we dont know what other consiquensies finasteride may have on the long term use.
I dont want to quit finasteride because i am scared of the option being bald in a young age.
What do you thing about his opinion about the drag?

sorry for the bud use of english

I would not get a hair transplant from a guy that is as dishonest as him.

He needs to provide you with the evidence based research that it is dangerous. Merk has alot of studies available and there are no documented deaths from this drug just sides such as temporary decreased libido which usually resolves. That is quite brazen for him to make such a claim. I would avoid him. He is just a surgeon that's all!

Get more opinions and do more research! I cant stress it enough!

agree with htgt.

he's a prick and he's saying it so that you will continue to lose more hair after your transplant and have to go back to him for more surgeries. what state is this in? doctors who are this dishonest should have their medical licenses revoked.

none of the reputable doctors mentioned on here regularly: hasson and wong, armani, feller, bernstein, cole, etc just to name a few, none of them would tell you lies about propecia like this guy has. so i already know he's not a top doctor. he's probably some local hack who will use a butcher knife to excise your grafts. i really cannot understand why anyone who visits this website would consider getting a transplant from anyone but a top doctor. if you can't afford it then don't get one. the horror stories are just too great, and saving money is not worth it when your post-hair transplant result could look worse than youre pre-hair transplant result.

actually posting the surgeon's name would be even better.

I am from Athens Greece.
My surgent told that we just dont know what may be the long term use of finasteride(for 10y for example).because after all is a drug.
Anyway i have decide to continue taking propecia just because i am geting crazy on the idea of loosing more hair, but i dont know for how many years i will continue taking it.I hope for a better solution come up like HM but until then i will keep on fighting the bald with everything i have.
But jayman i don think he is doing it in order to make me more hair transplant. He is already have a lot of patients and some of them are famus here.He is just not sure about the safe of the drug in a young age.

I think that your Dr. may have a point. There have been no long term studies done with propecia. The drug has not been around long enough. You are very young and you would have to take it for the rest of your life for it to continue working (if it works for you at all). Also...it is well known that the effectivness of the drug starts to dwindle with time. Just like any other drug out there...the human body eventually builds up an immunity to it and the drug is no longer is effective. What makes propecia different than any other drug? Nothing...its just a drug....and any good Dr. will tell you that taking a drug for a prolonged period of time is not healthy for your body. As for the side effects going away after you stop....take a look at other forums and you will see that is not always the case...especially with gyno. Surgery is the only way to fix that problem. I'm not saying you shouldn't use it...but do be aware that it is just a drug that works for some guys...and for those that it does help it usually just maintains their hair and it is not some kind of miracle cure for baldness.

it's been out for nearly 20 years you idiots

like were said before, there are males in the population who have mutations that stop them from making any type of DHT... and have zero problems

Yes it has been out for 20 years...but most of the people who initially took it no longer do, becuse it stopped working for them. That is the issue really. Propecia is a short term solution for some people. That is about as good as it gets.
