Hi!

My hair loss started at a very early age of 15. Fortunately, I had really thick hair and it would grow back very fast. I didn't do anything about it and hoped it would always grow back although I used to shed massive amounts of hair daily. I went to a doctor and he gave me multivitamins but they didn't help. I noticed recession at 18 years of age in the temples and went to another doctor. He gave me minoxidil which I applied for almost a year. It did help and I got some regrowth but my scalp used to itch a lot and it was tedious so I dropped it. Also, it wasn't able to stop my hair loss. After that I took a break and used natural oils etc on and off. I don't think it was that helpful either. All this time, I knew about finasteride but I didn't think it was worth the risk. The side-effects were too scary and would always scare me off. At this time, I had see-through hair on my scalp and after I got some comments, I decided to take the leap. I was between NW2 and NW3 along with a progressing (almost) baldspot. I started taking cheap generic finasteride in the normal dose and experienced side effects during the first month. It was a decrease in libido, unable to get a deep sleep (constantly found myself waking up which was rare because i use the loudest alarms to wake me up, i used to sleep that deep), felt completely emotionless (like a zombie), brain fog (this scared me the most). I don't know if I activated these symptoms psychologically by reading all those horror stories but I decided to push through as I also read that these symptoms are normal and will subside eventually. And they did!

I didn't stop and I am really glad. My sleep's quality is back, libido is not fully back (maybe im now 70-80% of what I was before) but it may also be that im comparing it to the teen stage where hormones are peaked. Another advantage of finasteride is that I can think really clearly now. I look at things logically instead of believing blindly and am more open-minded. I accept when I am wrong and just find myself more at peace. I don't know if this can be attributed to finasteride. I now have thick hair and my crown fully regrew as well as my temples. I didn't use minoxidil at all. All my regrowth is because of finasteride. I do have hairloss now as well but it's in the normal range. I am now NW1 (almost perfect hairline). After seeing positive results, I never came back to these forums. I came today just to help the others who find themselves in my position. If your hair is precious to you, take action. The only regret I have is that I didn't start sooner. Also, I am no shill. :) Just wanted to help. Any questions, feel free to ask and I will answer asap. Thanks

Norwood 2-3 to NW1 regrowth with only finasteride ? Wow congrats on your success thats extremely rare with such simple regimen. If only you could post pics that would be great.

Kind of a personal question here. Have you noticed decreased body hair after starting finasteride (especially on arms) or less oily skin including less acne?

Hi I really enjoyed reading your journey and I am so happy for you. Hair loss is something I never thought would be something that young people would ever have to experience. I never knew how damaging it can be to ones self esteem or confidence. My life changed dramatically these past two months when I actually confronted my own situation and decided to take action. On May 24th 2017 I decided to goto see a hair specialist and he recommended me to begin taking 1mg of Finasteride. Since then I have been taking it daily and I am nearing the one month marker. I definitely have notice less hair on my hands in the shower (I used to get maybe 10-20 hairs) around 10 hairs or so. The thing is my hair loss is not noticeable to anyone except for me. I have created a monster in my head when I think about it (which is almost every waking moment of the day) I am constantly in and out of depression daily and fear that Finasteride is something that won't fix what needs to get fixed which is the temples on my hairline. Luckily I only push my hair in one direction and only one temple is constantly visible. I would really love some advice and if you guys can rank my hair loss on a scale from 1-10 and tell me what Norwood scale I am on it would help tremendously. Also I would love some words of Advice and some motivation. Thank you guys.

Unfortunately, I have no pics. You will have to take my word for it. I do wish I had tracked my progress.

I do feel like I have little body hair but i can't say for sure, i don't remember what my pre-finasteride skin was like because it's been a year. But if it was a drastic change id have remembered. I do have acne on my face when i eat a large pizza by myself but that's mainly because of my eating habits. Junk food has an instant effect on me. Still doesn't stop me ._.

Hi bro how long before you started noticing results on finasteride? how many months?
I honestly don't remember but you should give it at least 6 months and see how you react. I don't remember exactly when i started noticing results but in the 6th month i can say for sure it was helping.. If you have male pattern baldness, finasteride will help (except in some rare cases... i have read threads where people don't respond positively to finasteride at all and look for alternatives.. but this is really rare..)

Pics or bullshit.
i understand you not blindly trusting my post.. unfortunately, i have no pics.. i am going leave these forums once again and continue living my life as soon as it stops gettign replies. I just wanted to help the ones that are unable to make the decision.. if you are doubting my regrowth from nw2-3 to nw1, that is fine... but im sure you agree with me that people should at least try. The point is, the side effects are reversible.. unless you took it for too long. Even I can't say if they are reversible after a long period.. but you should push through the initial side-effects in the first couple months because they ARE reversible as far as i know.. Believe me it's worth the try
