Been following this thread a while now so thought I should join and tell my story. I have always been paranoid about my hairline and hair loss but it seemed fine with no noticeable receding or loss. I was 23 when i noticed thinning on the crown and back of my head. I went to a GP and got prescribed finasteride. I started taking 2.5mg pill everyday around the same time every morning, I cut a 5mg pill in half. Didn't see any improvements until about 7 or 8 months in.

I have maintained and got slightly thicker hair in some areas. I am quite happy with the results but do not like the side effects from it. As of now it will be nearly 2 years since i started finasteride, recently I added Nizoral to my regiment and am now considering adding Minoxidil as well or change from finasteride to dutasteride as I would like thicker hair regrowth. Also forgot to say I have tried cutting the 5mg pill into quarters and taking it but still have the sides. On this forum I noticed some people have had more success and no sides with dutasteride after making the switch from finasteride.
Anyone have any questions or advice they could offer me I am more than happy to receive.

When I tried dutasteride I eased onto it. Started with 0.5mg 1x a week, finasteride the other 6 days. I eventually went up to every other day, dropping the finasteride. I saw an increase in hairline thickness, but not much else anywhere else.

I had a skin cancer scare and temporarily pulled back from all medications and didn't re-add dutasteride back in when I resumed fighting my hair.

I didn't have any sides from dutasteride as far as I could tell.

Thanks for the reply, did you have any sides on finasteride? i am waiting for a consultation with a specialist regarding my hair and if i should add minoxidil, switch to dutasteride or any other options. And lastly i am hoping that adding the Nizoral will help in the next few weeks/months.

I had mild brain fog the first few weeks when I started. It would last a couple of hours after taking it. Nothing major. I haven't noticed anything else. I've been on it for a bit over 3 years.

What sides? And are they unbearable?

Sides are reduced libido and reduced erections. Also feel like i don’t get the same buzz after exercise. Reduced libido isn’t exactly major problem, lack of erections is concerning though. Though at times i think it can be psychological too.
