My Story and Hair Dye

After a big 'second shed' earlier this year my hair is holding fine (losing 5 hairs when I wash my hair every other day).

However, I'm 22 and greying to the point where mates are starting to notice.

My hair is brown and I've just bought some dye. Having checked the ingredients it says that it contains 'Hydrogen Peroxide' on the bottle. Will this wreck my hair or is this not the type of peroxide that everyone warns of. The brand of the dye is 'Just For Men'.

Anyone else use this stuff or know anything about it? Any advice gladly received.

Yes, you read right, hair dyes do indeed contain hydrogen peroxide and they will indeed wreck your hair a little bit when you use them.

I occasionally dye my hair. What I recommend for you is to follow up the hair coloring with a good conditioner after you wash the coloring out.

i use bleach to lighten the tips of my hair - not rootes, just on the tips, after a haircut. can this have ne serious effect on the roots or on male pattern baldness? im careful not to go near the rootes at all..

thanks

I doubt it, given the nature of male pattern baldness.

I'm actually thinking of getting some work done on the tips now that my hairline is decent enough to wear forward or up.

don;'t use hair dye. it accelerates hair loss in my opinion. had lots of friends who dyed their hair.. they've lost a lot of hair because of it. if you do decide to dye. don't do it close to the scalp or root of your hair. that's just my opinion

If hair loss is totally hereditary and has to do with your genetics than wouldnt hair dye just cause damage at best and NOT worsen balding?

if you dye your hair or dread it or braid it and you have hairloss in your genes,.. it will accelerate your hairloss. it makes you hair unhealthy, etc...makes it weak and die off quicker. like now.. with any of us who are losing our hair.. if we dreaded it or braided it..or dyed it.. trust me.. you'd lose it quicker. i'm just saying this from people i know who were losing their hair and lost all of it in almost a year from doing this throughout a whole year. my friend was losing his hair so he thought he'd dye it a lighter color to make it less noticible.. he lost 80% of his hair in 4 months. his hair fell out and didn't grow back. but whatever ..if you want to do it do it.. it's your loss. i have nothing to back it up. but personally i wouldn't do it. i try to keep my hair as healthy as i can..instead of using products that makes it weak until the hair follicle amost dissapears

Your makin assumptions there dude. Genes are what we are fighting, nothing else.

On a side note. I have just dyed my hair black (was originally dirty blonde) and I am sooooooooo incredibly happy right now.

At first when I looked at it, I thought "sh*t, sh*t sh*t" cause it looked so weird on someone whos been blonde all his life. I was thinkin i looked like a gothic or something.

But now that I have had an hour to get used to it, I LOVE it. It hides my hairloss sooooo well. I look like I have a completely full head of hair again, and thats without even putting couvre on (have not been out the house with it on for 10 months). Im just looking forward to waking up and being able to style my hair like a normal person.

Sure im gonna get a few piss takes from the lads at first, but they will get used to it soon enough, just like I have.

Soo soooo happy :jump:

interesting, i thought going lighter hid hairloss better. my hair-dying days are over. i always felt the red-blue-blonde-purple-sliver-whatever color hair chemicals i've been using for the last 5 years have only accelerated my loss.

not sure which brands don't contain HP, or if there are any (besides henna) which don't. Generally though the less permenant the dye the gentler it is on your hair. I suggest doing a google search, and check out http://www.hairboutique.com, they have all kinds of stuff about dyes on thier site.

edit-- I just thought about it for a second, and I think that peroxide will only be in colors meant to lighten the hair color. I don't see why it would be in darker colors because peroxide is a bleaching agent.
