My recent scary RU58841 Experience (7 words)

Disclaimer: I am not 100% sure if whatever I experienced was caused by RU58841, but I want to report my experience here nonetheless and am wondering if anyone else experienced the same.

I am a male in my early twenties who's been using several hair loss medications since 2019. Prior to starting RU58841 (5%), I was already using oral finasteride (0.5mg daily), topical minoxidil/finasteride (+/- 1ml daily) and some vitamin supplements and derma rolling. About 1 month before starting RU58841 I also started with dutasteride 0.5mg, once a week.

After having read multiple (largely positive) experiences about RU58841, I decided to give it a go as it appears to work especially well in combination with dutasteride.

I first started using it +/- halfway through November (2020). My daily dosage amounts to a little less than 1ml daily, about 30 minutes after showering in the morning. Didn't experience any side effects whatsoever in the first couple of weeks. Then, the following happened:

- During Christmas, I suddenly experienced some degree of shortness of breath. I didn't think too much of it, but decided to take a short break from RU (couple of days). Then I continued using it again afterward at a lower dosage (<0.5ml daily) and didn't experience side effects anymore.
- About 10 days ago, stuff quickly and suddenly went downhill for me. I experienced the following things: shortness of breath, sharp pains in the left part of my chest and rib area, pain while trying to take deeper breaths, and consequently not being able to breathe satisfyingly. Moreover, I had the feeling that my left lung went numb. In other words, I felt like little to no air would get into my left lung.

All this lasted for multiple days. The pains in my chest and rib area subsided after a couple of days, but I still wasn't able to breathe normally. Finally, after +/- 8-9 days, things have gone almost completely back to normal. The pains are gone, I can take satisfying breaths, and my left lung feels normal again. Sometimes (very rarely) I experience some minor pains, but this seems to improve by the day.

Needless to say, this whole situation scared the f*** out of me. I quit using RU immediately and was looking online to find similar experiences of other people. In hindsight, this made me even more scared. But one thing I found online interested me. The symptoms experienced by this guy almost perfectly overlap with the things I experienced, see here:

Highlights of his post:
- dull and sharp pains on the left side of my chest and in my rib area. These pains are inconsistent, and sometimes occur when I move in certain positions.
- A feeling that my left lung and upper left abdomen have gone numb (this has only happened a few times but is very uncomfortable).
- Fullness in the upper abdomen that comes and goes... when the shortness of breath is at its worst, the upper abdomen feels very tight.
- Tingling and numbness in my hands (only happened a few times).

Sadly he never reported if his symptoms subsided, but I hope they did.

Anyway, I went to the GP a couple of days ago (was already recovering well at this point) and explained my situation and told her about the medications I'm using. My blood pressure, heartbeat, etc. were all fine. Based on the sudden onset of the symptoms and the fact that my situation was improving, she said I may have had a collapsed lung (not sure about the correct English syntax here, but I think it's called pneumothorax). This really struck me by surprise to be honest. I was convinced that everything I went through was caused by the RU58841 and nothing else. But it got me thinking; pneumothorax gives almost the exact same symptoms.

Getting a collapsed lung out of the blue is pretty rare I think, but tall and slim/slender men like me tend to be more prone to experiencing this.

Still, I'm not 100% convinced and would really like to know the opinion of you guys. Also want to know if anyone ever experienced similar things and if/how you recovered. I would ideally like to start using RU again but then at a lower dosage (e.g. 2%). The RU I used prior to this experience is from Actifolic and it's a premade solution (see here: https://actifolic.com/product/actifolic-ru58841-solution/)

It contains RU58841, alcohol, propylene glycol, piroctone olamine, natural linalool, biotin, ginseng extract and aqua.

Many thanks in advance.

Had exactly the same symptoms as you just not as severe. Took two months to fully clear up. Scary stuff

I'm on 6 months of RU. First 2 months was RU in KB, last 4 has been RU in minoxidil. Only side so far is that my scalp gets dry. I think the side is from the minoxidil. I didn't have this issue when using the RU in KB.

honestly, I never got around to RU, however I was prescribed another Anit Androgen although much weaker called Tagamet which you can buy over the counter in the US. I was told to take a high dose to clear a skin problem.... 1.5g a day... took it for 2.5 months and ended up giving my self an auto immune problem on my skin.....

the good part is the skin cleared up after a few years.... bad parts are my d!ck (which survived 3+ years of Saw Palmetto and Foti) was prevented from DHT docking to the Muscle on one side of my pen!s (Anti Androgen literally block Androgens from docking on receptor sites) which I now have only a slight (THANK GOD its only SLIGHT) bend. Basically and Anti Androgen induced Congenital Pen!le Curve. I know FML

I realized 5AR although it deff affected by mood, and drive in the gym + some minor fat retention in belly and chest; was not the end of the world. I quickly bounced back after stopping 5AR....

But man, the AA although weaker than RU was dosed at 1.5g which medical papers has shown as safe for up to 3-6 months really F'd me up.... I just realized a month or so ago that the chest pains Ive been having over the last few years and continued weakness in the gym are probably due to residual metabolites of Tagamet in my Spinal Fluid....

Going to a Cardiac Specialist in the next couple months to wear a heart monitor for a few weeks to see how my heart is acting at all times...

Honestly I wish I didnt have the Tagamet experiance so I could at least try RU; but at this point its just way to risky... I wonder if the muscles of my heart may have been affected like those in my dank! FML now thats scary... if my arteries are permenantly altered in a negative capacity.... fml man... I dunno... doing more research on how to fix this...

Long story short.... Be careful as fkkk w AA's... Honestly better off living with PFS and jumping on steroids to get over it; even if you have to go bald.... better than being bald, with dyck and heart defects.... smfh!

are u still on it ? im still on it but im kinda scared to get off cuz of shed do you get shed if ur quitting it ?
stopped after 2 weeks of using and havnt touched it since. I have been shedding for 3 months since i stopped, never shed before in 30 years and my hair has thinned out alot. I dont know if this is due to the shedding people see before their treatment is starting to work or i have somehow upregulated my receptors after only 2 weeks of using. I saw a video by more plates more dates, he stopped RU for a month while he went overseas and he pretty much lost 60% of his hair density over a month. Not sure what the cause of this is

This theory scares me more than anything to be honest because then the last thing I want to do is upregulate androgen receptors by using an androgen receptor blocker such as RU or even CB.. The reason being is if you ever want to come of it you now have an increased number of androgen receptors causing thinning at a faster rate than before and we have nothing to downregulate these receptors.

Thanks for the replies guys. I see some others here have experienced similar side effects. That's indeed worrying.

I have a hair transplant procedure planned in 4 weeks and so far, although finasteride + min have somewhat slowed my hairloss, it didn't completely halt it.
Hoping that the dutasteride (which I take once a week) can slow it down further... but using it with RU58841 would've been the ideal combination.

For now I won't use RU, however I may try a lower dosage (e.g. 2%) starting 1-2 months post-operation...

Hi, I'm quite shocked to read another story so similar to mine...

I used RU58841 from the same source as you (anagenic). I also started in November and after a week I started experiencing shortness of breath/feeling that I cannot get a satisfying breath. I got scared and decided to take a break from RU until things get better. After a few days, things improved but not to the point I could say that I fully recovered. Since then I never restarted the treatment.

Unfortunately, by the end of December things got much worse for me. Apart from shortness of breath, I started experiencing pains in the chest, weakness, brain fog and my energy levels decreased drastically. I also suffer from quite bad indigestion and take omeprazole 20mg to help me with acid reflux.

At first, I was very skeptical if my problems were caused by RU, I only took it for a week in a quite low concentration (about 3%). Now, after a month of suffering, and finding more and more reports from people experiencing similar side effects after taking this drug I'm slowly changing my mind.

I recently got had a blood test and chest X-ray and they didn't show anything suspicious. I wish to get ECG or echo to check if my heart is working fine but I can already tell that GP's in the UK are not very keen on sending you to an appointment while being relatively young and without any medical history.

That's terrible to hear. How are you currently feeling? Are you recovering? I think an echo is the best thing to do, but it really sucks that GPs don't take your symptoms seriously.

I sourced my RU from Actifolic by the way, not Anageninc.

Thanks for sharing OP. Just out of curiosity, did you notice any difference when you added dutasteride 1x a week? Losing ground on finasteride and I don't want to resort to something like RU for obvious reasons.
Not noticing much of a change. Only using it once a week anyway, for about 4-5 months now.

I had a similar experience, x 2. Two years ago I used RU for 4 weeks and loss continued to accelerate.
A few months ago I went in at double the dose...kept going even though shedding became more extreme. After a few days of losing small clumps of hair, which I've never experienced in my life, I dropped RU for good. Two months after last RU dose is when shedding went back to pre RU levels.
