Hey guys....I'm a 21 year old guy and I began experiencing a moderate amount of hair loss when I was 19. I use to have really thick hair and I never even imagined I would start experiencing hair loss at such a young age. I was the first to notice that my hair began shedding and thinning out. During the first year I experienced hair loss (February 2006), I would always ask people that saw me every day (family, girlfriend, and friends) whether they noticed a change in my hair. They always answered saying that I was just imagining things and shouldn’t worry. So for the first year I wasn’t too worried about the whole thing. However, around February 2007, my hair had significantly thinned out and I noticed I had lost a lot of the thick, lustrous hair I once had. Around August 2007, even my friends and family began telling me that my hair wasn’t as thick and full as it use to be. I went through a lot of depression during this time and I knew I had to do something about it quick. I went to a dermatologist and he recommended Propecia. First thing I did is read up on Propecia and I understood all the side effects that may result. To be honest, I had doubts about taking Propecia and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to take the plunge because most of the reviews on the product and the topics on the forums about the product had a negative undertone. However, the thought of losing all my hair was too much to stomach and I decided I would give it a shot.
Month 1:
My first month on Propecia wasn’t so great. It seemed I was losing more hair then ever before and my hair was getting even thinner. My chest area also felt a little sore and my libido decreased slightly. I was kind of expecting some side effects after reading all the topics on Propecia, so I thought I would hang in there and ride it out. Either way, the bottom line is I felt that the product wasn’t working for me, but I came into this whole situation with a mind state that I was going to stay on the drug for at least 6-9 months before calling it quits.
Month 2:
I noticed that hair loss had slightly decreased and I was seeing less hair fall in the shower and when I combed through it. Other then that, there was no observable difference in the way my hair looked. My side effects had disappeared though. I guess my body adjusted to the drug. Thank god!
Month 3:
They call this the “miracle month†I guess and I was one of the few that found out why. The amount of hair I lost a day had decreased a bit more and I noticed less hair would fall out while I combed through it. I also noticed that the thin hair I use to have had thickened up. A lot of areas on my scalp were not visible anymore and my friends and family began telling me that my hair was thick again. Also, while on the Propecia, the hair around my temples seems to have thickened up. This was a happy month for me, especially after all the depressions I went through. I guess I was a good responder to the product.
Anyway, the main reason I am posting this is because when I first started losing hair, I would read up on forums to see what drugs worked to counter the effects of male pattern baldness. Most of the responses I read on Propecia were not optimistic and mentioned a lot of side effects and progressed thinning. When I read the negative responses, I always thought the forums lacked an optimistic response towards the product and I promised myself that if the product did help me, I would definitely come back and recommend it. Thank god that it did work for me because I have been through hell and back and I wish that no one would have to deal with hair loss and the depression involved. Either way, to those on Propecia, hang in there and I hope the product works for you as well. To those not sure about starting Propecia, I recommend you give it a shot and I pray it works as well for you, as it did for me.
I will keep updating this from time to time. I hate writing, but I just had to post this for the people unsure of starting Propecia, that might be helped by it. Hang in there guys! Take care!
