UPDATED: photo from 2014

I started using finasteride in Sept 2009, primarily through reading advice on this forum. I feel because of this I should share my progress.

I take 1.25mg per day from the very start. I have 5mg pills which i split using a pill cutter into 4 pieces. I take one every morning when i wake up.

I am in the UK and get a (private) prescription from my doctor. I then take it to a supermarket pharmacy where I pay about £6 for a 6 month supply. (yes very cheap)

My hair was very thin on top with blading on the crown. I knew I would be completely bald with the 'horse shoe' pattern as my brother who is 2 years older than me experienced the exact same hair loss and was completely bald by 25. I am now 27 and am sure if i hadn't taken finasteride i would have no hair on top.

I am very pleased with my progress. Yes my hair loss is still visible but my hair is much thicker than before and allows me to keep a fairly normal haircut and appearance.

Photos Top:2009 and 2012 . Then the crown is 2009, 2010 and 2012 respectively. added photo from 2014 DSCF0847.jpgDSCF0871.jpgDSCF0812.jpgDSCF0860.jpgDSCF0876.jpg.2014.jpg

UPDATE: As you can see my hair is even fuller / thicker and I have now grown it out so I can have a "hairstyle". People cant notice I have / had hairloss and my friends and family are pretty amazed with the results.

I now take an 8th of finasteride 5mg every morning and then zinc / vit C and L-arginine in the afternoons.

Very impressive, congratulations! You went from an NW5 to (almost) NW2. Some of the best results I've seen from finasteride alone!

My only regret is not starting earlier. I wonder if I had started at the first signs of hair loss whether I would of kept almost all of it.

Oh man, how I've heard people that so many times, but luckily for you, you still have a good head of hair, how long were you contemplating before you decided to jump on finasteride?

How easy was it to get a prescription for Proscar ( I assume that's what you are using) because it's not really intended for hairloss ? The Doctor is doing you a favour cause £6 for 6 months is dirt cheap.

I'm paying about £40 per month for propecia because its not available on the NHS. I know you can get generics a lot cheaper but wanted to start off on the main brand.

Not that long tbh. But when I started losing my hair i thought there was nothing I could do. Didnt discover this forum and finasteride for about 2 or 3 years later

Pretty easy. I went into my local GP and said i wanted to give finasteride a go. He didnt really know anything about it but decided because I would be taking such a low dose it would be fine.

Yeah its not available on the NHS but a GP can write you a private prescription which you can get filled at any pharmacy that stocks it. I take my prescription to tesco and its actually about £4.50 for 64 pills which is more than 8 /9 months.
I am always surprised when I see people paying so much for it. Contact your GP and try and do like me.

beyond amazing. the thing I have realized is that people with more advance hairloss tend to respond better than people with slow early loss.

im not saying this is true, or a fact, just my observation. so take it with a grain of salt
this is confirmed in one of the long-term studies.

great progress man! i am about to jump on finasteride but is it possible you could just answer me this real quick? honestly it could be the difference of me jumping on or not..
did you experience sheds (if so in what months and how bad was it). also any way we could see a current pic of the crown? you dont have to but that would be the ultimate progress pic

Are you still taking propecia right after you got the very successful result like that?
Can you update more current states of your hair and your treatments up to now? and also your experience of side effects?;)

Most likely he still is taking finasteride, that's if he wants to keep his results.
still no guarantee tho.
