My Progress So far...

Introduction:

I am 22 years old and have been experiencing hair loss since i was about 18 years old. My main concern is to stop the thinning that has been occuring in my temple region as well as the recession of my hairline. My father is completely u shaped bald and my grandfather on my mom's side had great thick hair into his 60s.

Treatments: (1/4 Proscar, Liquid Min., Nizoral currently )

I started finpecia way back in june of 2005 in hopes of just maintaining what I had which was barely noticiable frontal loss. In about August of 2006 I began to realize that my thinning could possibly be stopped and even reversed if I added minoxidil into my regimen. I did not start this til October '06 which i began with the liquid. I used the liquid til end of May '07 when i decided to give the foam a shot. The foam seemed amazing at first since i could use as if it was basic mousse and almost forgot i had it on. Then the shed came in mid july and lasted into august and it left my hair looking pretty thin. At this point i decided i had to go back to the liquid just to be safe. I am still on the liquid now and feel it is doing a good job. I also substituted U P's proscar for Finpecia in late july and am taking 1.25 mg a day.

Sheds:

I experienced shedding in March which was about 5 months into treatment on the liquid as well as in July when i switched to the foam. The march shed was scary and lefy my temples looking like crap but it did eventually thicken up in May. The really scary shed was in late july though when i had been on the foam for nearly 2 months. I was losing all sorts of hairs both thick and thin. This is where i freaked out and started back with the liquid. Currently, i still shed small, thin hairs that do not really seem to affect the overall appearance of my hair. (Seems like tons of poeple on here experience this so I feel this is prolly a good sign that the treatment is maintaining healthy hairs and flushing out the miniturized) Alot of them i lose just from flaking from the liquid residue that has dried up on my scalp so I try not to worry too much about that.

Regrowth:

Havent really experienced hairline regrowth other than small hairs that never really thicken up. Seems like my temples have maintained since i began taking pictures although i do not have any baseline ones but that shouldnt matter since i didnt shed til March. Temples seemed to be maintaining though which is all i care about. Regrowth on the hairline would be awesome but i dont dwell on it. I just want to keep the temples thick.

Pictures: (Hope these work) Ill try and get more from earlier as well as more current when i get them off my old comp.

Hi dude,

That was a very descriptive post, way to go when you post your story.

Looks like you maintained it all, maybe you should add some copper peptide to the
treatment to make those vellus hair turn terminal.

Also on short hairs, dermatch works actually pretty well, I would advice you to give
a shot to the dark-brown color.

Keep it up with your treatment, it's a good thing you accepted your hairloss pretty early and wanted to treat it early as well. It takes some humility, we all tend to be a little bit in denial about it, so good job!

I think you should look at your right temple again. Looks like some regrowth, but with the unclear pictures, I'm not certain.

How far has your hairline receded? When my hair loss started, I didn't care much since my hair line only receded maybe 1/8"... however, it thinned mad fast over a couple months until I jumped on propecia.

Good luck.

My hairline hasnt receded far..maybe a 1/4 inch at the most in the most receded spot. My temple pictures are kind of deceiving though becuase in march i went through a nasty shed that left my temple looking kinda of bad which you can see in the pictures. It did obviously thicken up alittle bit but right now it is still maintaining.

The split is actually a scar from when i was a little kid. I ran into a street sign one time when i was running from someone and it hasnt grown hair since.

Hello again,

it’s been about 8 years or so since my last update but I have great news that should provide hope for all out there suffering from hair loss.

My hairline has continued to maintain pretty remarkably since my regiment began in 2008. I have been very consistent with liquid Kirkland minoxidil on hairline and Temple areas twice a day (about 8-12 hours apart between applications) and 1.25 mg of finasteride each morning. Every other day I shampoo with over the counter grade Nizoral.

Sheds come and go but I have not let it phase me anymore or get me depressed. They are typically seasonal and are only temporary so I have just learned to ride them out. Also, when the minoxidil causing unbearable itching, I have turned to coconut oil which I apply before bed. It’s a bit messy but works wonders.

I see my old photos from the years are no longer available on the earlier thread posts but I will post some older photos in a second reply post. Here are some photos from today, March 1, 2021:

I want to add I also take biotin, MSM, coq10, and multivitamins daily with meals.

Photos from 2009-2013 in no particular order since the time stamps are not accurate anymore (older phone pics) but the point to demonstrate how effective the regiment has been.
