My male pattern baldness life story

I have looked at pictures of myself from when I was a kid, and it is clear to me that I have been a Norwood 2 all of my life. I don't think my temples ever have been full. I can remember relatives commenting on my high hairline for the longest time- even laughing at my temples when I was a child. I always had really thick hair, however, up until a year ago. It was then that I proceeded to go on a bulking up kick. I was taking alot of protein supplements and doing some heavy lifting. Shortly after I began to lose quite a bit of hair. Then about another month later I began to train for a marathon and lost alot of weight---and even more hair. I was also under alot of stress at the time. Since then I have taken Propecia for six months, undegone a Propecia shed and saw my hair loss stabilize to the point I was hardly losing any hair whatsoever. No itching at all, nothing. Because of dramatic Propecia side effects (including loss of morning wood, decreased libido, loss of body hair, and brain fog), I stopped taking it and have been off of it for about 2 months now. My hair has stabilized since being off of Propecia, and it's not even noticeable that I'm losing my hair, unless you knew how much hair I've had to begin with. I grow it out long now and it looks fine. I now maintain a stable weight from running and diet- no more fluctuations. I can't understand my situation. Is it male pattern baldness? Because the side effects from Propecia were so strong, I feel that maybe I do not have increased DHT. It is quite a perplexing situation to me, and I'm wondering if anyone here can enlighten me. Maybe you've had a similar experience?

Hi there i can see these possibilitites:

1) your male pattern baldness may not be the severe kind. Maybe it started and ended in a Norwood 2. But u panicked and went on propecia thinking that u will go bald if it continues

2) your male pattern baldness is age related means the slight recede at the temples and hairline. Its also a mild form of male pattern baldness which many guys espereince. At 18 and at 21 or at different ages when u are older there may be one or more "periodic episodes" of recedes for most males which start briefly and stop. it is the most DHT-sensitive part of the scalp - so much so that some portion of it succumbs to DHT even in the typical non-balding man without the balding genetics (what we call the mature hairline, analogous to NW2). again u panicked and went on propecia thinking that u will go bald if it continues

3) Your male pattern baldness is maybe driven by super sensitivity hair follicles kicking into mode which means u do not have increased DHT but increased sensitivity. WHich may show a worst scenario. This explains why u expereinced more intense form of side effects than others. because too much DHT below the required level for normal body functioning is being inhibited

4)regarding the last part U may have started on propecia very early in your male pattern baldness cycle and somehow a miracle happened. Your body somehow may have switched to a lesser non sensitive or no mode at all and your hair is maintainng. the body has adapted to propecia and changed its mechanisms......I have heard of reports where users have stopped their hair loss completelty when they stopped taking propecia .
But also the above points 1 and 2 may also be possible in this case too....your male pattern baldness may have stopped and this is how far u can get. No more male pattern baldness and propecia doesnt have to do its job although u have been taking it thinking it's been doing its job

5) U may be expereincing male pattern baldness in "waves" where it starts and stops and starts again at different ages. male pattern baldness is unpredictable and that's proven

dont quote me on this but point number 4 is 80% speculation.
But 1) 2) 3) & 5)
are based on some scientific and in the least anecdotal evidences
