My interesting Situation

OK, I am 29 (soon to be 30). I started noticing thinning around my crown around 4 years ago, and then 3 years ago, whenever I washed my hair, it was beginning to fall out (especially on top)

I decided that, since I did still have alot of thick curly hair, I would grow it out and see what happened.

I did this for a couple of years, only getting cut twice a year. Most people thought my hair was fine, but I still noticed that I lost hair whenever I washed it, and this never happened prior to the age of 26.

I went to see a Derm, but they just said to try some shampoo they were shilling (it wasnt one Ive seen listed on here) and to try back in a few months if this did not work.

I tried it, it did not work. Getting back to see the derm was a pain in the butt, since you had to book appointments months in advance, and I could only see this derm due to my insurance.

So I decided to go completely natural and let my hair grow into something resembling dreadlocks. Hair was still growing, but also falling out at the same time.

Which brings me to my present situation. I am going to be undoing these locks soon, but I know that alot of my hair will probably fall out in the process. And, since I am getting it cut, the balding will be visible.

male pattern baldness runs on my mother's side of the family (my uncle and Grandfather were bald by 30). Needless to say, I dont want this to happen. I dont have insurance at this point, but thought about going on finasteride based on what I read here, and what some friends have told me who were suffering from male pattern baldness.

So, my question is, should I try finasteride (or a finasteride/minoxidil regimen) before I take these locks out? Or take them out, cut my hair, and then see where I am?

I know my hair was/is falling out, but I have so much of it, none has noticed up until now. Has anyone else been able to grow hair and have it fall out at the same time?

Any help is appreciated.

Regardless of what you do with your hairstyle, get on something. The WORST thing that guys do is ignore the hair loss. I ignored it for 3 years. I only jumped on Propecia/finasteride when I noticed that I had a visible thinning spot on the crown.

It is 20x easier to maintain hair than it is to re-grow it. I've maintained almost all of my hair since I went on finasteride, and I wish I could go back 6 years to when I first started noticing it.

What mg of finasteride would you suggest? I was thinking of starting with the 1mg pills, but Im not sure.

Everyone responds differently to finasteride. I started @ 1mg, but noticed some testicular ache, so I cut the pills in half and went to .5mg a day. Didn't notice any sides after that.

I upped it to 1mg a day about a month ago (hoping for some re-growth) and have yet to experience any sides from the upped dose either.

(a C&P from another post of mine)

I get all my stuff from 4RX

http://www.4rx.com/online-pharmacy/cate ... pecia.html

I've been taking Finasteride from them for the last 3 years. My hair loss went from 200 hairs a day to about 25, so I know it wasn't just a sugar pill or something like that. I just ordered Dutasteride from them, and I got it within 7 business days.

2 money saving tips if you go there...
1: Let's say you want 180 caps. Add the 90 caps to your cart instead. It will take you to a checkout page, but it will also give you a chance to upgrade your order to 180 pills for $20 cheaper

2: Use the promo code Q52EM37T during checkout for another 10% off. That's my promo code that I got for being a return customer, so feel free to pass it around :)

(I swear I'm not a shill for the company! I've pointed 3 friends with male pattern baldness to the same site, and they've all had good results with the drugs from there. Just trying to be helpful and save you guys some money at the same time :) )
