My Hairloss Story - Anyone With The Same Condition?

Hi, so I'd like to share my story hoping that maybe someone has the same condition and can help me figure out what's wrong. My doctor doesn't know. They ruled our hormone imbalance and since I dont show any other symptoms, it's apparently not worth testing for any related diseases because they will likely end up negative. He said there are too many to test for and without any other symptoms, it would take forever. My last verdict was that it was probably stress related, except that my first occurence was during summer holidays of 2011 and frankly, 2014 when my condition hit a pause was way more stressful.

So during summer 2011, I noticed a baldening patch on my scalp, which got twice as large in the upcomming months, hence I decided to see a doctor. This first patch was my biggest as of yet, the rest that came later were smaller in size. The interesting thing that puzzled my doctor is that my hair always starts growing back immediatelly after it falls out. As my hair gradually falls out from the patch center, a few days later I can feel new hair growing back already, starting at the center. This has happened a few times over the years and Ive never had more than two fresh patches at once. An interesting thing is that a patch has never occured twice on the same spot, at least not so far. This condition lasted for about 3 years, sometime during 2014 it stopped. My doctor couldnt figure out what was causing it so my treatment at that time was mostly focused on supporting hair growth. Sometime during 2013 I gave up and stopped using my medication because it wasnt preventing new patches from occuring anyway, and a few months later there werent any new patches anymore.

After about two years of peace, about a month ago, I found a fresh patch. It's starting again, same as before, and my hair's growing back immediately. I'm very grateful, of course, and I realize there are people who have it much worse than me. But I'd like to know what's wrong - it scares me that it's happening and it scares me even more that nobody knows why. I'm 27 years old and I've never had hair or skin issues before this.

Thanks for listening, ladies. I don't have many people I could talk to about this. If there's anyone with the same symptoms, treated or untreated, could you please let me know?

Hi Ella, hair loss at any stage and any amount can be devastating for women. I went through having many bald patches then complete baldness to complete hair growth with no "flare-ups" since 2014. I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata by a dermatologist, this diagnosis allowed my doctor to start a treatment that he thought would help, thankfully through the treatments, positive attitude and my faith I have full regrowth. I believe my disease was brought on by stress not that I hadn't had stress before but this time it was pretty bad and it showed through hair loss. I said all of that to say I still look for bald spots every now and again and if you haven't been diagnosed by a dermatologist I'd highly recommend it they are specialist in this area. Good luck and please keep me updated. :)

I'm happy you found a doctor to help you that's great news! I'm very distraught over my hair loss mine is genetic and I have high DHT diagnosed with hirsutism and 2009. I was taking Spironolactone for eight years and it worked great BUT it doesn't work anymore. I need to find a doctor that will prescribe an anti-androgen to a female in the United States. seems to be quite hard to find. What was the treatment your dermatologist put you on ?
