Hello. I'm a 35 year old male - my dad went bald and so did my grandfather. I know it's bound to happen to me. I've always had this bald spot at the back of my head ever since i was probably 15. I didn't think much of it until my late teens when the bald spot started to grow. My hairline is starting to recede but I don't have really heavy shedding yet. I can shower and wash my hair and I don't really lose much...but I know it's a slow process that I can't avoid. What do you suggest? Do you think I'm a candidate for surgery? I'm skeptical of taking medicines or foams and I was thinking about the transplants. I'm new to all this - i'm not sure what category I fall in (Norwood 3? 4?). Thanks for all your advice.

Thanks

So lets say you will become a NW6, lets say....

You use all your donor hair and you have a NW2 and look stylish as brad pitt. But you continue to bald (damn genetics)... thats not good.

All transplant doctors advice users to get on Rogaine and finasteride because it halts hair loss and regrows in most cases. So it is advised to use the treatments for a year, see where you are and if you are unhapppy you can go in for a transplant.

That's a good suggestion. I'm planning on going to my doctor soon. I'm just (as i'm sure most people on this board) concerned about side effects of medications. Yah implants isn't the answer to everything.

Transplants are your last resort. Also you will habe to take finasteride afterwards so your loss does not continue. I would get on finasteride for at least 2 years before you think about surgery. Looks like finasteride can do something for you.

You have mad dermatitis, I would try and fix that before any other treatments.

Yes those red blemishes on the scalp, you need to see a dermatologist.
