Hello all,
Just posting here for the first time to add my experience to the pool of information here.
I decided to start taking finasteride on October 8th, age 25, after noticing that for the past year and a half my hair was not as full, temples receding and hairline looking thinner.
Doctor recommended cutting Proscar 5mg into 1.25mg and taking every day. Having done a bit of reading, I started on 0.5mg (as close as I could, obviously some days was more as cutting isn't accurate) EOD. I have pretty much followed this for 3 months.
What I noticed:
- Immediate decline in libido; I could still get hard and come, but the urge/desire was dampened. I decided to continue as I read this can be temporary in nature. It increased a bit but probably not as high as it was before.
I could still have drunk sex which told me that the effect was not too much of a problem.
- Softer erections, head of penis not as full when fully erect.
- Watery semen, but this seemed to largely go away after a month or so. Jizz loads were a bit smaller but nothing too crazy of a reduction.
- Main thing, noticeable hair regrowth along hairline, in fact all over head. When I say noticeable, I mean those small whiter hairs grew longer and darker and was noticeable around the 2 month mark. Brother commented that it looked like my hairline was getting stronger, I never told him I was on finasteride.
- I can get off to p**rn with pretty hard boners, but my libido for the real thing was lowered from the get go.
- One thing I really noticed was a decline in sensation with sex, dick was hard but it wasn't as pleasurable, I fantasised less about the horny sex thoughts I normally got.
- Last night and this morning I could barely keep it up with this girl. She wasn't a 10/10 but me before finasteride could still have done the deed and then had post sex regret, so I guess finasteride saved me from that.
- I am 25, very physically fit/muscular. Test levels are within normal ranges, although would like them higher.
I had experience some ED in the past due to p**rn usage, but finasteride I would say has still influenced my erection quality/stamina/lust.
I'm still on it, but am not sure whether to continue and cut out all p**rn/masturbating for a couple months to see if I'm simply desensitized mentally, or to quit finasteride and p**rn/masturbating and then restart finasteride by itself to see if it is the main culprit.
Conclusion: finasteride works for hair, it also can cause lowered libido/erection quality/satisfaction. My dose is so low, so I'm surprised. Could be nocebo to some degree, but I tried my hardest to believe I wouldn't be affected.
