Alright 21 year old dude here. I am between a Norwood 2 and Norwood 3. My hairline recedes to the beginning of my sideburns, like your typical mature hairline. However in a typical mature hairline, the hair going from the corner of the hairline to the center is left untouched, while in my hairline that has receded as well too. You probably have no clue what I am talking about as it is hard to explain so Ill try to demonstrate with pictures.

While my hairline is more like this.

The recession is deeper on one side. The hair I do have is thick, and I have no crown loss at all. When I told the few people who I would tell about that sort have thing, they all think I am being an ***, except for the dudes who also have recession who understand.

I am sure to many of you, my problems might not seem significant. I am also sure that some of you understand what I am talking about. Now here is where it gets complicated. I havent had a straight hairline across my head since I was 12. As crazy as this sound, I think I went Norwood 2 in middle school, and progressed to where I am now since then. When I do the mature hairline measurements posted on baldingblog, I fall within the line of the mature hairline. My dad who is in his mid 40's, has the same hairline as I do, and I think it started maturing at a young age as well, its hard to tell from photos. I think he has some slight crown thinning, or he just might have a natural spiral. However, his father and half brother were both N6 or N7. And his half brother's son(my cousin) is like 10 and is at least N2 already. I saw a dermatologist who said that his prediction is that I would never be slick bald judging by my thick crown, but that it was hard to determine hairline recession.

So as you can see I am one of those cases that could go either way. I have been on Propecia for the last six months, and to be honest I noticed my hair getting thicker and darker all over but no change in the hairline. And I am cool with that, if I maintain what I have for the next 20 years Ill be more than happy. No sides so far btw. However I am starting to wonder if maybe what I have now is just my genetically determined hairline, and like my dad I just progressed to my pattern earlier than most. I am questioning whether it is worth the cost(and possibly and long term sides, as i havent got any of the short term ones) of Propecia. On the one hand I might be wasting money, but on the other hand if I quit I might eff myself.

So if you were in my shoes what would you do? This is distressing, I dont want to worry about this. I am in the process getting my wonky teeth fixed and sometimes I wonder whats the point if my hairloss progresses by the time my braces come off. Its like that with lifting weights and what not. So I dont really know what I should do.

Be glad that you've caught it early. You're on finasteride so like you said if you dont get any worse as you get older its all good.
Not everyone has a straight NW1 to begin with I've never been less than a NW2 in my whole life.
Its better to be safe than sorry so how about just maintaining on a reduced dose 0.75 for example and if things get worse go back up to 1mg a day.
