Jeff I think starting dutasteride is going to prove to be a catastrophic mistake for you. IMO, your hair loss is caused BECAUSE of Telogen Effluvium from propecia in the first place. Your first few pictures on the board, I notice 0 hair loss... 0...

Now that you're overly anxious about your hair 24/7, and have been taking propecia, I absolutely say you are losing your hair. I can tell for sure now you are diffusely thinning on your most recent pictures.

You need to relax, and you need to not use dutasteride.

I agree with the Beast. You need to give finasteride more time before switching to dutasteride.

Oh man, I feel your pain... I can't tell you how many times I've knocked the minoxidil bottle over trying to get that damn dropper into it... it's like watching dollar pills flow down the drain.

So much for the "five second rule," ehy? Come on, you know you thought about it. Maybe if I dried them carefully... pee is sterile anyway...

if every night all our hair fell out and grew back by morning, then yes, maybe five months would be long enough to tell if finasteride is working for you.

it takes several hair cycles under the dht-inhibited affect of finasteride for your hair to grow back thicker. however, at least 85% of your hair is currently in the anagen phase, and it will be in that phase for several years. even if a hair is shed once you start finasteride, it will still take a couple of months for it to grow back. even then it might take another cycle for it to thicken up.

how can you possibly think 5 months is long enough?

Having had a very shiny smooth scalp 19 months ago, I stuck with finasteride (propecia then proscar), plus everything else, so keep to finasteride for at least a year.

Boru, any reason you avoid red meat?

Testosterone is pumped into cattle, and growth hormones, and antibiotics, plus many other chemical nasties. Beef is very slowly digested, and caused free radicals, ulcers, etc. Mad cow disease is lurking under the surface, possibly the culprit for some very worrying health trends as yet poorly diagnosed.
Salmon oil, omega 3 is a better habit. Therefore, we need to protect the seas better from factory ships. My local salmon fishery in Northern Ireland is now almost dead.

That sucks so f*****g bad.

Well, you ordered your dutasteride from unitedpharmacies, right? I don't know how long they take (I've heard anywhere from 5+ days).

So you're going to fill your Propecia again?

Are you going to finish up another month of it before starting dutasteride?

I wonder if it is Telogen Effluvium from propecia? I know i was losing hair before, but never this much.

and your right.. i was very very anxious before. I've calmed down a little about it, with much thanks from lexapro..

some people say go with dutasteride, some people say stick it out.. some people say stop all medications.. some people say just accept..

I dont know man..

also..

I do have miniturization.. I dont think that Telogen Effluvium would cause that. maybe it would, i'm not sure.

but i was losing hair before.. I did have surgery at the end of november... etc.. who konws.. maybe things will get better if i relax and stick to my regimine.

Well said.

Red meat is really bad. It is only good to grow muscles.

according to keratin.com the very first regrowth after t.e is usually very 'thin' ..

however, its where you're thinning that'll help you in diagnosing male pattern baldness..

jeffs, give the dutasteride a rest for now, stick to finasteride... dont count the hair you lose in the shower, it'll drive you insane. its been said over'n over on these forums, that the hair you just shed didnt go away forever..you just need to get your regrowth in tune with the shedding and finasteride'll do that for you, if you give it enough time.

i still dont know whether the shedding is a t.e or a good sign because of the jolt you've given the follicles. i'm gonna go with the t.e idea, that the different level of hormones shocks your entire body rather than just your hair..and for different people your body adjusts differently in a different amount of time to this change.

give it time... get a cap if see'ing your hair is stressing you out. take the cap off only to wash your hair..it'll also give you a better assessment of how much you're actually shedding.. since you'd be wearing a cap throughout.. wear the cap for as long as you deem necessary till you feel the finasteride has actually kicked in. trust me, you'll obsess over it alot less.

re:

All the posts and every person with insight has said that patience is the most important part of a male pattern baldness treatment. dutasteride is not tested and should only be used, in my opinion, by those who have have receeded to maybe a Norwood-3 or Norwood-4 and other treatments have not worked.
Even if you do get resukts in say 2-3 months, you have no idea if those results were because of the previous 6 months of finasteride use or the 2 months of dutasteride because hair grows in cycles.

Again, I cannot say it enough, this is a poor example to others. Stay on finasteride for AT LEAST one year before deciding anything!

you need to learn some patience jeffss. jumping from treatment to treatment will probably make you lose your hair faster than if you'd not treated your hairloss at all. do your research, pick your products, and commit yourself to them for a reasonable amount of time. 5 months is absolutely nothing. deaner, a regular poster on this board, has seen serious improvement well after the 1yr mark.

thanks for your time to share your thoughts..

I wish i COULD wear a hat to work. it would relieve a lot of stress.. I deal with the public every day and every day I feel horrible about it.

I do hope that propecia works. I wish there was a way to test your hair to see what was going on chemically in there!?

I will stay off dutasteride for a while i think.. i was being irrational and ordered some the other day.. but i do realize that it's real powerful stuff and i should hold off for a bit....

at least i'll have some if another 6 months goes by and finasteride still hasnt done anything.

I have a curse of big head, oily skin so believe me, i wish just buzzing it would be an option, but i dont think it is..

I dont know waht to do..
