Month 10 update

Hey guys... it's time for my usual random update.

Ok, month 10 is here and there is still not much to report. Albeit no positive change, there has also been no negative change either. I'm keeping a photo journal of my progress at no definite interval. My computer decided to change all the dates on my pictures, so I have no clue when I took them exactly, but I know that my hair today looks just like it did, if not a little thinner, than it did when I started everything. I have a seriously aggressive form of male pattern baldness... I could consider myself one of those guys that would go bald overnight if it was left unchecked. I have seen some slight improvement in the temple area, which really wasn't my PROBLEM area per se, but it ended up becoming a major problem as treatment progressed.

Most of you who frequent this forum know that I've decided to hit this b**ch doubletime now... as in double doses of everything. Finasteride, minoxidil, saw palmetto. I believe that it's starting to do something. Between the months of july and october I was in a massive shed that just never seemed to want to stop... I'll attest this to being lazy with minoxidil for a month, being off propecia for 2 months, and forgetting about saw palmetto. After restarting minoxidil and saw palmetto, the shed began to reside, but not stop... so I added 2.5mg finasteride to my daily dose. After about a month on that, the shed has stopped, and I'm losing hairs at a normal rate... 50 or so a day. I wash my hair, and I rarely see more than one or two hairs in my hand when I run my hands through my hair... I do the hair in the sink test every now and then, and I usually only get between 10-20 hairs even after wearing a hat all day long.

I have in NO way accomplished anything though besides delaying it a bit. I'm not celebrating until I'm sure I've found something that works. I'll give this treatment I am on right now 6 months before judging whether it's working or not... and then move on to something a little more potent.

I have sorta an urge to be a pioneer when it comes to this subject, so I might try some of the heavy guns, such as Fluridil, 15% minoxidil, and whatever else is on the docket.

I'll post pictures at the 1 year mark... which is coming up in late february. Thanks for the support guys. You have all given me the one thing I've needed to keep going at this fight... hope. And I can't thank you all enough. Good luck to everyone. We need it.

Specific to the shedding, I have had very impressive results from the use of folligen therapy spray and folligen shampoo. The "hair in the sink" test proves (to me at least) that consistent use of folligen results in significantly less shedding ON MY HEAD!! (may not apply to all!).
Perhaps you could give this a go? In my case, the results are pretty evident and happen quickly, so if this did not reduce shedding in you say in three months (tops) it is not going to work.

Give it a go, it is not expensive.

For what it is worth dept.!!

Good luck.

Sounds like your doing well considering the circumstances. No evidence yet that Fluridil is a "big gun" as you put it although Bryan is doing some work right now to try and address this question...i think.

hey stingray, so where is your big problem area? the crown? i'm in the same boat! the treatments haven't worked much for me, either. added emu oil shampoo/conditioner, xandrox 15%/xandrox 5%, and green tea extract. hoping for better results. i certainly am not giving up without a fight.

Stingray- your regimen is hardcore. Have you given any thought to using dutasteride? Just curious.

i've actually considered dutasteride... but it's WAY out of my price range. If I don't see any results with finasteride after a year and a half, I'm probably gonna make the step. And I'm 21. My problem area has been my crown for pretty much the whole time. I started early this year when I was 20.

I have noticed a SLIGHT decrease in libido, but it is really nothing of concern, because I still function just fine.

Hmph... I'll just keep on keepin' on

i say keep reading up on dutasteride before trying it. i'm considering it too, but first there's the whole issues of unknown risks involved with it, and second, A LOT of people are reporting rapid frontal loss where they never even had a problem with frontal areas prior to taking the drugs, and the loss continues for even after 6 and 9 month points.
