Hey people! I've been fighting male pattern baldness for the past years. Had some success slowing things down a bit, but in the past month or two I am experiencing a major shed. Every day I am noticably losing loads of hair.. my hair line is rapidly thinning. (very noticeable) My question for you guys is what kind of minoxidil you using? I've been on Dr. Lees 500 for 5 years and loved it.. I started the foam on the crown and perfect image 15% in front over three months ago. Do you think the shed is part of the new regiment? Thanks for any advice.

sounds like the new minoxidil has caused the shed as you said its been 3 months since u started using it. dont stress, it means its working just ride it out and assess it in a couple months time

That's what I'm hoping. I remind you I've been on the big three for about seven years. I have been losing a little here and there, but that is what I expected. But I did not expect to lose 40% of my hairline in 2-3 months. That's ridiculous. Every week I check it looks worse.. (and I'm not disillusion, been fighting this war for a long time now). Maybe it could have been the fact I went off finasteride for a few months and went back on it?

Is it possible that after 3/4 months you are losing the hair that Dr Lee's stuff grew for you? And that the Perfect Image stuff is not doing anything for you? You might find helpful the thread 'The Big Three' on the bald truth forum. Note, particularly Spex and Dr Haber on 'shedding'. This is the best thing I have read online since Dr Lee's site went down.
Also. when did you stop and start propecia?
I'm looking for an alternative to Dr Lee's Xandrox products. What I read online is not encouraging.

If i were you i'd stop using the perfect image solutions straight away, it completely destroyed my hairline when i was using it.

Lee 123 and Israelite. So what minoxidil are you using now? What minoxidil do you now recommend?

There seem to be two major stories in forrums from people who shifted to Perfect Image Solutions or Minoxidil.max from Xandrox. One is that they start shedding pretty much straight away, get scared and drop them. The other is that the shedding starts in 4-5 months or so.

If a treatment is working, I understand that early shedding is par for the course and may well, indeed, be a good sign. What concerns me is that shedding later may indicate that hair previously maintained by - in my case - Xandrox 15 - is now being lost.

Revita shampoo and propecia (which i've just started) are the only two treatments i'm using at the moment. After perfect image solutions i went back to kirkland and then tried spectral dnc, i went cold turkey on the minoxidil at the end of november when i took my first propecia pill, since then my hair has improved(texture, feel, and visible)and the skin has got better on my face (more fresh faced) and i no longer have that bloated look which i never realised i had till i quit minoxidil.

I'm seeing how things pan out on propecia, then maybe a few months down the line see if minoxidil can kick start some new hairs since they've had a break from the dht attacking them.

Maybe you should take a break from minoxidil, substitute for a caffiene shampoo, (probly the next best thing imo being as you shouldn't use caffiene an minoxidil together)

Thanks for your post.

I have never heard anyone advising taking a break from minoxidil before. I thought you would simply lose all your hair (and, according to some reports - more!) that you had gained from it - in around 3-4 months. Though, I have heard of the taking a break from propecia theory to 'kick start' things. But, it is supposed to take around a year to lose your propecia 'gains'.

I'm thinking of Dualgen-15 - minoxidil max - to replace the Xandrox 15/15 plus.

But their 'new formulation' includes some caffeine I believe. Where did you get your view that minoxidil and caffeine should not be mixed. Why not?

The way i understand how minoxidil works it opens blood vessels were as caffiene constricts , so the two would conflict each other. But then again no one really knows exactly how minoxidil works so it might not be a problem,

While i'm not using minoxidil though, the second best growth stimulator in my eyes which is also easily available are caffiene based shampoo's

If i start shedding badly i probly will start using it again ( i have 3 bottles of spectral dnc still) but to be honest i think minoxidil is not actually that good after you have initial results from it... (its like they hook you in with a few new hairs and they've got you for life!)
