minoxidil wasted?

hi, i've been using kirkland minoxidil for a little over 6 months and haven't seen any noticeable results. my hair is very thick & i have lots of it, but my crown is very thin and it's very noticeable under bright lights. i empty about 5 ml of minoxidil every evening onto my vertex. i notice my hair soaks up a LOT of it, which is why i put so much on. my hair puffs up like candy floss when washed so i only clean it roughly every 4 days, but with the hair being so thick it looks normal (when working at a festival for 2 weeks my hair didnt look greasy until after 11 days without a wash!) anyway, back to the point; do most people clean their scalp before each use of minoxidil for maximum results? i feel as though i'm wasting the product by getting it lost in the hair, applying over old dried application and only using once per day. has anyone else had results under these conditions?
i may just cut my hair short and start washing & applying minoxidil strictly twice per day but i hate having short hair...

any advice is appreciated
regards

I feel the same as you about "applying over old dried application." I wash my hair twice a day believing it will maximize results. I use Nioxin System 2 Cleanser twice a day and Nizoral 2% EOD in the morning. I'd like to hear opinions from others on this as well. I'd just as soon only wash my hair once daily but have been doing it twice a day for two months so that my 2nd application of minoxidil (which is in liquid form in the evenings) is applied to a freshly cleaned scalp.
