i've been on it about 5 months along with propecia and nizoral. i only apply the minoxidil at night and only on my temples. so far so good, one temple has filled in completely. the other one, which was much worse to begin with, is full of little blonde vellus hairs. these will hopefully turn terminal. as for the finasteride, i haven't noticed much yet....i am just hoping that it thickens the crown up somewhat. i will what a year and if it doesn't than i will start putting the minoxidil on the crown too. it's just so messy i can't be bothered right now.

Just started dabbling with minoxidil again. Still very leary of "the shed". I always start shedding by the end of the first week. This time is the longest I have stayed on the minoxidil. (9 weeks) and I am still shedding. I just wrote to upjohn asking them how one knows when shedding is to much. I will post there reply when/if I get it. I have been on proscar for 10 + years and did not shed like I did with the minoxidil. How much is to much?? God I would really like to know. I have stopped minoxidil. in the past at 4,2, and 6 weeks respectively and always grew the shed hair back within 4 months. I did not know at the time that shedding was a "good" thing. Now I'm learning about shedding and am going to stick it out with the minoxidil. for a bit longer. Nine weeks is the longest I have stayed on it. I am shedding a lot but not like I did on the propylene glycol versions which caused extreme flaking and scalp irritation. My only concern is that if I am not a responder to minoxidil I will have stayed on it to long and will not recover the shed hair as I did in the past. Medical experts I have consulted with say that I will regrow the hair back if I stop the minoxidil. but when you're talking about somthing as important as your hair you still worry and no one can give you a 100% guarantee that the shed hairs will grow back - with continued or discontinued therapy. I am almost ready to quit now with the minoxidil. but I am going to try and stick it out for another month or so. Wish me luck and good luck to you as well.

thinstinks,

I just wanted to say that it has been said that if the ppg stuff dries up fast, it might not be a good thing. Remember that the minoxidil needs a "transport vehicle" or some sh*t to get the minoxidil under the skin. I guess that's where the alcohol comes into play. So, just know that drying right up might mean that it is getting lost to evaporation, instead of being absorbed by your skin.

Not a great explanation, but hopefully you get the picture. I used regular Rogaine, so I don't know much about it.

But either way, good luck man.

also, after reviewing these replies it seems that us diffuse thinners are in serious need of some positive thinking, so anyone with positive results in the crown/front please post and describe the goods/bads and time periods,,

thanks its needed

Well babies,
I've been on the minoxidil for a year. Started seeing improvement just 2 months in. I've had some nice regrowth in front, and thickening all about.

Just because hairs are still falling at 9 weeks, don't mean it isn't working. I still lose many hairs in the shower, but hair is far better than a year ago. Stick withit for at least 4 months.

I just want to clarify - Dr.Lee's PG-Free minoxidil, I've found, takes a longer time to dry. This is due to the PG being replaced by glycerin. Lee's regular minoxidil has 30% PG (most have 50%) and it's this one that dries quickly.
