I have a question for all the people using minoxidil for over 6 months:

What type of irritation, if any, do you experience? I know it is common when first using minoxidil, but after a while it seems that it subsides for many. With my situation I have greatly decreased my irritation from what it once was but my scalp still slightly itches. I have a slight burn in the areas where I apply minoxidil everytime i shower or lightly massage my head. Sometimes during the day i'lll get a tingle up in the front of my head where I concentrate my minoxidil application.

I have a feeling that i'm only accelerating my hairloss because my immune system is attacking the hair follicles of my irritated scalp.

Another question would be, do you think I would still be experiencing this slight irritation if I wasn't using minoxidil as a topical because my body is attacking the follicles because of the DHT??

Hey Bomb,

I do get a slight tingle after minoxidil applications. It happens about 5-10 minutes after application, and then quickly wears off. I would definitely NOT call it irritation. It is almost a pleasant feeling, I think it is the cooling sensation of the alcohol evaporating.

ONE source of irritation for me that I have noticed is when I overdo it on the Nizoral. Now, I am NOT saying per se that Nizoral irritates my scalp. But, I went through and experimental stage where I was letting my hair soak in the Nizoral lather for 5 minutes or more if I had the time. I did this on occasion on sequential days, and after that my scalp really reacted badly. I remember after doing two sequential days of Nizoral soaking I put an American Crew menthol conditioner on my hair afterwards. The conditioner normally gives a cool tingle, but after a few seconds the tingle turned into a burn! Almost as if the Nizoral had removed too much scalp tissue and my scalp had become extra sensitive.

Needless to say, I don't do that anymore. I use Nizoral every other day, and when I put it on, I only let it sit while I have time to wash the rest of my body with soap and then I rinse it off. It is 3 minutes max, and this problem has never repeated itself since.
