I started spectral DNC, but to ease it in I started once a day. It's now been 4 weeks and I suppose so far so good

I was wondering if this is enough until I feel confident to up the dose ?

Am I just wasting my time and will this low a dose do nothing ?

I just don't want to waste the product.

I have very sensitive skin so I like to let my skin adapt while I add new products.

So far so good, no bags or any real nasty side effects. A light shed is happening though, shedding a lot if 1/2 inch hairs which is weird along with more thicker hairs.

I'm also using fluridil .

That's the combination I'll be using, Spectral DNC and Fluridil, although I'm only using Fluridil at present.

Doesn't Spectral DNC contain Retin-A and other ingredients which should hopefully make it quite effective @ once a day? Which would be ideal as you can use Spectral AM and Fluridil PM.

Yes it does and that was what I was thinking.

I guess I will continue on this for another month and see how it goes.

I started almost a month ago on minoxidil once a day...1 to 1.5ml

I seem to be seeing some minor results, I can't really tell yet for sure.

I think you just have to be patient with growth stimulants. I'm guessing things may have to get worse (the shedding process) before they get better. How long have you been using Fluridil for?

Guys, if you wanna save money on the Spectral DNC, then just get some generic Kirkland minoxidil to use in the evenings...

You must use minoxidil twice a day if you want to achieve and maintain any serious gains.

If you look at any of the studies of patients using Minoxidl alone to fight male pattern baldness, they show that twice a day application led to a rise in the hair count for the first 2 years, then it levelled out in year 3, then begin falling slowly after that.

Once a day won't be enough because there won't be enough Minoxidil every 12hours to counter the damaging effect of the DHT on your follicles.

Long-term follow-up of men with male pattern baldness treated with topical minoxidil.

Olsen EA, DeLong ER, Weiner MS.
Abstract

Forty-one men with male pattern baldness completed 132 study weeks (2 years 9 months) with topical minoxidil and had follow-up 1-inch target-area vertex scalp hair counts. Initially these men were treated with either twice-daily 2% topical minoxidil for 12 months or 3% topical minoxidil for 8 to 12 months (one third of the subjects received placebo for the first 4 months). After 12 months all subjects continued to apply 3% topical minoxidil twice daily for 1 more year, after which they were randomized to once- versus twice-daily topical minoxidil for an additional 9 months. Those subjects who changed to once-daily application of topical minoxidil at 2 years had a mean change from baseline nonvellus hair count at 1 year of 291.2 (range of hairs four to 553) and at 2 years 9 months of 235 (two to 592 hairs). Those subjects who continued with twice-daily application of topical minoxidil throughout the study had a mean change from baseline nonvellus hair count at 1 year of 323 (15 to 589 hairs) and 335 (13 to 808 hairs) at 2 years 9 months with maintenance topical minoxidil. There were subjects on both maintenance schedules of topical minoxidil who lost some of the nonvellus hair they had initially gained with topical minoxidil; however, there was a greater mean loss in those patients following the once-daily versus twice-daily topical minoxidil regimen (p = 0.05). No subject lost nonvellus target hair as compared with baseline.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Conclusion is that twice per day is better, but not groundbreaking better. It was also 3% and not 5% so the difference might smaller/bigger.

BTW, lots of minoxidil studies here :)

I'm 100% sure I am getting temple regrowth now after a month of use. I was not expecting any results this fast. I had some minor shedding in the first two weeks of miniaturized hairs in the front of my hairline and the temples.

I'm just using it once per day, about 30 minutes to an hour before I go to sleep, usually 1.5ml (about 1 ml across the top of my head and almost .5 on the entire hairline/temple region)

EDIT: It might just be finasteride working too though, as I've been on it for seven months.

From the Spectral DNC product information leaflet:

"You should avoid washing off Spectral DNC for at least three hours after application. Apply on dry scalp"

"the other ingredients (vitamin and herbal extracts) can only increase sex drive" :)

"You should take control of hair loss in about 2 weeks and start growing new hair within 3 months. If you have small patches of baldness, you should see significant results. If you are at an advanced stage of hair loss, it can take up to 6 months to see regrowth."

"During the first two weeks you may notice increased hair loss" (two weeks for shedding- this may vary with person to person I'd say)

"You can expect to inhibit hair loss completely within just 2 to 3 weeks and start to see new hairs after 2 months. ... hairs will become terminal, thick hairs, which may be seen as early as 4 months in to treatment, although the full effect is usually seen between 8 and 12 months."

"For Spectral DNC to be effective, it must be used twice per day, in the morning and before bed. Some people find that after a year or two they can reduce to only once a day to maintain what they have. "

It will be interesting to see how much more effective Spectral-DNC is over regular minoxidil...certainly on paper it looks good.

Good tip on saving money by mixing it with standard minoxidil - I'm tempted to squeeze in two applications for six months - AM + After work followed by Fluridil before bed.

I think once I get my second bottle i will step it up to twice a day. Until then it's just gonna be the once.

Also since I only use it on the front and hairline I only use 6 sprays instead of 10. 2 sprays above each temple and 2 in the center.

i would definitely use it twice per day as directed. If your gonna do it you might as well do it right. You might be able to get away with once per day if using the stronger 10 and 15% minoxidil formulas but with 5% I would play it safe and use twice per day. If its a price thing, I agree with others and just use kirkland minoxidil. You can use it for around $4 per month.
