minoxidil made my hair worse?

I've been taking minoxidil for over a year now and I've seen no improvements. Started with rogaine and switch to a generic 5% minoxidil brand. The top area where I've been applying it has just been getting thinner and thinner and it feels like it's because of the minoxidil (even though I was starting to thin before hand)

What should I do?! Has anyone heard of minoxidil not working?

I've just started taking finasteride so perhaps I could quit minoxidil and hope finasteride does the trick? Or should I carry on with both regardless?

Help!

Hey Captain,
Not everyone is a good responder to Minoxidil, due to a lack of a certain enzyme called sulfotransferase.
The best option to keep your hair and perhaps have some regrowth (depends of how long you've been balding) is getting on finasteride.
To enhance potential regrowth you may look at other (weaker) proven options such as Stemoxydine and Adenosine.
Good luck :)

Hi thanks for the reply, do you think I should stop using minoxidil? I'm worried the places where it's been used my hair will fall out if I stop!
I've just started taking finasteride so maybe that will help in a few month, what do you think?

minoxidil does not work for everyone. There are some studies that say that it really only works for 30% of users. So it is a common problem and I would suggest you should try some other treatment. It is at least good to know that minoxidil does not work for you and that you will not need to spent any more money on it.

You're welcome :) and yes I think you should stop. If it's not working for you, you should not have a shedding. finasteride will indeed help to maintain what you have depending on how you respond to it. The majority of guys are good responders, unlike for minoxidil. So you should be fine.

Ok I'm going to quit minoxidil and hope my hair doesn't fall out until the finasteride starts kicking I'm.
Are there any other topical solutions I could perhaps try? I'm using nizoral shampoo as well but again that seems to be having no effect

What happened

Did you quit? What happened? I'm in the same boat and curious. All it did for me is leave a bald patch on my hairline.

Are you using it twice a day? And what else are you taking?
