So we are pretty sure minoxidil inhibits collagen in the face (aka premature aging).

We need to talk about this and help each other to find methods/tips to maintain a healthy skin on our scalp and face.

What do you guys recommend to keep the stimulation of collagen in the face?

Im planning on using minoxidil longterm so any advice for better skin on the face and scalp would be appreciated.

share you experience!

for now, Im planning on using dermaroller/derminator pen on my scalp. And for my face, i'll use some kind of jade dermaroller with 2 different heads, on each side.... One side is short but large super thick ''needles'' that wont penetrate the skin, and the other side is a soft roller, without needles, it softens the skin.

here is one study about minoxidil and collagen inhibition: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1546087

Yes it does inhibit collagen
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3985251/

"Despite use of high minoxidil doses and the least irritating formulations, inhibitory effects were not demonstrated."

"If tensile strength can be assumed to be directly related to collagen crosslinking, the inhibition of lysyl hydroxylase by minoxidil, as demonstrated to occur in-vitro, apparently did not occur in this in-vivo model."

"In conclusion, although topical minoxidil improved the process of wound healing, our results did not support the proposed idea of minoxidil usage as an anti-fibrotic agent, because it did not alter the collagen content or tensile strength of burned area of the skin. "

"In this study, we demonstrate that minoxidil treatment of cultured fibroblasts reduces LH1>>LH2b>LH3 mRNA levels dose-and time-dependently, but has essentially no effect on the total number of pyridinoline cross-links in the collagen matrix."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9326711

"Minoxidil did not demonstrate significant inhibition of wound contraction rates relative to either an inert vehicle, an active vehicle, or no treatment. Contrarily, as previously demonstrated in this animal model, silver sulfadiazine did demonstrate significant inhibition of wound contraction rates relative to both vehicles. No significant difference in tensile strength was demonstrated among groups. These observations do not support the proposed use of minoxidil as an "antifibrotic" agent."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23918751

"Treatment of Brown Norway rats for 10 weeks with minoxidil or diazoxide increased elastic fiber content and decreased cell number in the aortic media, without changing collagen content."

Here are some studies ive found about minoxidil and collagen inhibition (aka skin aging) :

1 : https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8844127

2: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7735678

3: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2826267

Make sure to comment your thoughts, it will be appreciated
"Collagen inhibition" does not necessarily equal "skin aging", these are vague, non-scientific terms that cannot describe the complex biological processes that you are trying to use as evidence for paranoia with vague, 30 year old in-vitro studies.

Please link the the study that demonstrates commercially available topical minoxidil applied to humans, for hair loss, in therapeutic doses causing an indisputable cosmetic effect on the skin, with before and after pictures in the same exact angle and lighting, and further skin biopsy samples showing an objective deleterious effect on collagen content.

I have been using oral minoxidil for about a year give or take a month. I look exactly the same as I did when I started. I even have before and after pictures. I have grown hair as well, but use other treatments along with it.

Glad to hear that you’re doing well on it. Heard some good stories regarding oral. Do you get it compounded or just split the pills?

How many mg oral do you take and when did you first start seeing results?

I split 5mg pills into 1.25mg. I first started seeing results about 3 months in (went to a hair clinic and compared my baseline to 3 months in). I also often drink caffeinated beverages and drink water to help prevent it from lowering my blood pressure.

That’s brilliant. Happy for you. 1.25 mg shouldn’t have too much effect on blood pressure anyway, should it?

I recently saw a vid by Dr Davin Lim on YouTube, he swapped to oral after 20 odd years on topical. I believe its been popular in S.E Asia for a long time. Now it seems to be getting prescribed a fair bit in the U.S and OZ.

In vitro results were not demonstrated in vivo.
What part of this can't people understand?
