minoxidil dependent hair?

Hello all....

Do any of You go to the hairloss research site?

They claim that rogaine has a short terms effectiveness period (12 to 18 months) before tolerance sets in. They also think it can cause "minoxidil dependent hair". They think if usage stops, a major shedding often occurs, causing hairs that might've not even been affected by hairloss to fall out.

i just started my first dose today....now i am having second thoughts. Any opinions/input?

Yeah ive heard this. You got a link to this research site?

But honestly, what choice do we have? If we are losing we are losing, we have no choice but to jump on the meds, including minoxidil, you just get as much effectivness out of it as you can and hope its effectivness does not decline. In the mean time you pray that new technology comes out.

if You type in hair loss research the site will likely come up...have it on my favorites and it doesn't have the exact addy.

Well..the thing is....even if the stuff doesn't work....getting off of it can cause even more hairloss than You'd experience. this is giving me pause.

i planned to use rogaine along with either folligen or revivogen. i might just stick with folligen and/or revivogen. i am also on propecia and polysorbate 80.

Look at the research studies on the main page here. minoxidil gives you minoxidil-dependent hair within a few months, and that goes away when you stop. But no matter how long you're on it (although the longest studies are a few years, so its an unknown but guessable beyond that) you'll have more hair than if you weren't on it. In the long run you'll go bald. In the long run, we're all dead.

I don't believe that. From my understanding you get something called "catch up hairloss" so if you stop both minoxidil and propecia, the hair you gained from both meds will definately fall out, but also the hair that the finasteride was maintaining will fall out at an increased rate to what you would of otherwise experienced, so within a short period of time you basically end up in the position how you would of otherwise been if you never went on the meds at all. So basically taking finasteride is a life time deal. Not sure about minoxidil.

Well from my experience with minoxidil, i think that minoxidil dependent are only the hairs that gets some benefit from its use. If you quit it may trigger to fall some hairs that were not thinning visibly yet but will start doing in the next short period of time.

Of course it's stupid to think that it can have a bad effect on healthy hairs. It's like stating that if someone without male pattern baldness starts using it, and then stops he will have minoxidil dependent hair that will fall, which is NOT true.

If you think you are losing ground, or you've lost a bit and need some regrowth, add minoxidil it should work well in conjunction with propecia. If your hairloss starts now, use propecia first and you may not ever need minoxidil, who knows!

Didn't want to open a new post since it is very similar to this one. Basically I want to know if I use Rogaine and then after 8 months I decide it is not working for me, what will happen to the hair that did not grow from Rogaine, meaning the pre-Rogaine hair, will it thin and fall along with the other normal shedding(hair grown from Rogaine)?

i don't think so, if it was not dependent on rogaine, it won't miss it, so to speak.
