Minoxidil causing strange symptoms

Upon applying 5%rogaine/minoxidil about a minute later i start getting strange chest sensations and slight lightheadedness/confusion, and once noticed a heart palpitation. what the hell is that all about?

its scary, makes me think this stuff isn't 100% safe.

I used to get the same side effects when I applied minoxidil to a damp scalp (after a bath/shower), now that I make sure my scalp is dry (I wait half an hour after washing my hair) I do not experience these side effects.

Basically it sounds like you are experiencing systemic over absoption.

Are you appling the minoxidil to a damp scalp ?

Always bear in mind minoxidil was originally developed as a blood pressure medication.

exactly what ty said, what dosage of minoxidil are you using? I experienced some of those effects when I first started minoxidil and thought I had to splash half a bottle on my head to get results.

yes i would usually do it after i showered or first thing in the morning, and if it DOES definitely lower your blood pressure, that would explain the tiredness.

if thats the case, can i harm my heart or do any significant damage, or is that just minor side effects that go away with time?


or maybe I'm just over-sensitive to minoxidil? since the sides arent THAT strong, but they come so sudden that i get this huge urge and a voice saying "GET IT OFF GET IT OFF". thats basically me panicking, but yeah that would explain the severity of the sides.

Try this, apply only 0.5ml (half the normal dose) on a completely dry scalp, really make sure your scalp is towel dry and wait for half an hour or so.

If you are ok with this, try slowly moving up to 1ml over a few days.

My identical side effects dissapeared when I stopped putting the stuff on a damp scalp.

If you continue to experience side effects stop using the minoxidil and go see your doctor.

REALLY?? A minute later? Have you ever considered that maybe it's a placebo effect? Why don't you do a simple blinded test on yourself, and PROVE it, one way or the other?

I always apply minoxidil just as soon as I come out of the shower, feeling my pumping heart gives me a rush
