Gonna try to make this short and sweet after writing it the first time as a wall of text.

  • Been on liquid minoxidil since feb (once a day) with no regrowth
  • 4/5th month noticed bad seb derm (only on the areas I applied minoxidil)
  • Skin was discolored/itching/flaking/rough skin texture
  • Went to derm told me dermatitis switch to foam and nizoral
  • Used foam/nizoral since maybe june/august
  • Only itching gone, flakes/skin discoloration/rough skin texture remain alongside small pimples and pain in the areas where I apply minoxidil

Been doing some days no minoxidil and I get zero pain, tried to apply minoxidil again and the pain comes back.

Should I drop minoxidil all together? Seems like its killing my scalp.

forgot to mention I've been on finasteride since jan and got a script for proscar 3/4 months ago.

Any advice would be appreciated also happy holidays.

Yes, stop using it, it's a horrendous treatment anyway and useless for most.

Happened to me too.. 3 years into minoxidil use, developed terrible SD and lost a **** ton of hair. It still continues despite being off minoxidil for a year now. Goodluck with it dude, I feel your pain

I think this is more complex than most people think. I am not sure there is any hard evidence that minoxidil causes SD, but many people tend to develop SD and male pattern baldness around the same time in my experience. Thus, you may think the SD is from minoxidil but it may just be coincidence i.e. the SD was gonna happen anyway and it just overlapped with the minoxidil. I would argue to get the SD under control (coal tar is best, even better than nizoral if you ask me) and stay on minoxidil if you think it helps hair loss.

small update
Been around 10 days no minoxidil.

  • No pain
  • Redness/Itch/pimples gone
  • rough texture and flaking seem to be getting a little better
  • Skin discoloration I believe was from me scratching so that may be more permanent

Hairloss is pretty severe but this may all be from male pattern baldness so its just a waiting game to see if anything grows back or gets worse. Still taking 1.25 finasteride daily, looking into jumping into dutasteride early next year.

Hope everyone has a good New Years!
