minoxidil application for diffuse hair loss

I have diffuse hair loss (Norwood 5 headed for NW6) with baby hairs all around the scalp.
How do you guys apply minoxidil/xandrox?
Dr. Lee (website) suggests to part the hair in 6 different places of the scalp and apply 1/6th of a ml in each place.

In the past, I have been using my finger to use may be 1/20 th of one ml in 20 different parts of the scalp.

Which one is more effective? any ideas/studies done in the past?

I think you are overanalyzing it too much, IMO. I would just use 2 one MM applications of the minoxidil twice per day. Just spread it around your thinning areas and gently rub it into your scalp with your fingers and your good to go.
