minoxidil and Long Hair

Any suggestions on applying minoxidil (liquid) to a scalp with long hair? It seems like the hairs can soak up a lot of the liquid and keep it away from the target (scalp).

i used to part my hair into rows. So id part my hair down the side apply minoxidil then repart my hair and apply and repart and apply etc...till the whole scalp got covered.
