hey guys i'm 17 and i've just started my minoxidil 2% regime about 1 1/2 months ago. at first nothing happened but nowadays, my scalp is itching and flaking like a b**ch. it itches so badly and when i go to scratch it hair always falls out. does scratching an itch on your scalp have anything to do with hairloss?

also im using Nizoral 2%(NON PRESCRIPTION) and T-Gel switching off every other day but it doesn't help with sh*t for the itching.

the big question is, does this mean that i should stop using minoxidil? i'm only 1 1/2 months into the regime and things dont look better but it says that i must wait around 3 months for any results... but this damn itching and flaking is just bothering me too much.

also i'm noticing that a lot of nizoral/t-gel users leave the shampoo in for 10+ minutes... could this be the reason that nizoral and t-gel aren't helping my itching? it says on the bottle leave in for a few min for t-gel so i leave that in for around 3 min and it doesn't even say to leave in for nizoral but i leave that in for around 3 min also.

damn i hate to be pessimistic but sh*t has slightly gotten worse from when i first started my regime. anyone with some advice?

thanks

First off...Are you using conditioner? in not you should start .

Secondly you may need a break from the medicated shampoos. They could be drying your scalp up.Try using a regualr mild shampoo in between nizoral.

If that doesn't work you may just be sensitive to the PPG in the minoxidil. You could try Dr. Lees version of 5% minoxidil which has less PPG in it.

Just a couple ideas I thought I'd throw out there.

It might take a month or two for your head to adjust to the minoxidil hand in there.

I have zero irritation now, but it took around 3-4 months before it all settled down, I didn't change much around either, just stuck with Minoxidil - finasteride - Nizoral - champaign and T/Gel.

Also, when you have finished washing your hair, rinse your head in very cold water (this really helped my itch)

Try this experiment, shower your head with hot water and see how much it makes it itch, then try very cold water and you will also see that this really stops the itch dead, and it lasts for a long while after you get out of the shower/bath/mud hole.

And I (purposfully) missed the occasional minoxidil application (around one a week) and instead rubbed moisturiser into my head (Nutrogena Visably young with active copper peptides) this also helped a lot.

good luck.
