minoxidil and hair darkening

I have applied minoxidil on the temples for about 10 days now, and I think my facial hair is starting to darken? Is this possible? I haven't even applied it anywhere near this area...

I'm on Finasteride and minoxidil and all my head hair, beard hair and arm hair has darkened considerably. (Most noticable on my head hair as my new 'minoxidil hairs' actually look black and I was previously mousey/dirty blonde!

I don't know which to blame for the overall darkenening, but I don't really care since it kinda looks better :dunno:

10 days would be pretty amazing though...

So minoxidil actually does not only affect the area where it's applied, but also hair around the body? Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, minoxidil can get in the bloodstream and cause hair to grow in other places then your head. That's the reason women are only supposed to use 2%. The 5% minoxidil gives a lot of women unwanted facial hairgrowth.

Thanks guys.

The thing is, I've only been on the regimen(finasteride and 5 % min) for 13 days now. My facial hair under my mouth is growing faster and has turned from almost white and invisible to dark blonde already. I have also only been using 2 sprays(I think this is (2/7)mL) twice a day.

Does anyone have any idea of how this is going to progress? Will this probably affect head hair, body hair and eyebrows too?

It's not that it bothers me or anything, but I'm curious. I have to come up with some damn good excuses if this continues to progresses. :innocent:

Hey man, why do you need to make excuses? Why not just tell people you take drugs to keep your hair?
I don't see it as something you need to hide, and I'm pretty sure other people won't.. It's no different to going to the gym to work out or spending an hour a day sunbaking, when you think about it laterally.

If someone does come at you, just ask them what they would do if they were going to lose their hair.. I'm sure they'll see the point.

My 2cents.

Yeah you're right, I was planning to tell my closest friends if the darkening becomes obvious... So does anyone know how this progresses?

Thanks again

This is off topic, but you are so friggin' right on this one.
People who have weight issues, or fight depression come right out in the open. Why not hair loss sufferers?

Going bald is not a choice, but doing something about it is, and there's really nothing embarrassing about it.

A friend once commented about me using nizoral; he asked me why I used a "stupid, expensive dandruff shampoo". I told him it made me shed less hair, and he made fun of me "dude, are you losing your hair?".
Now, couple of years later, I see nizoral on the bathroom shelf when I visit ALONG with saw palmetto extract pills...
Nothing funny, he's just trying to fight his hair loss....

So those of you did get darker hair: Where did it start and how did it spread and progress?

My beard right below my mouth is still getting darker and thicker by the day and I'm only at day 15.

It's darker. All my hair, including facial is darker than it used to be. It's hard to tell exactly what shade it would be since I shave it short.

Don't know when where it started, guess it was gradual all over. Darkest being the parts on top that were already thick but that I still apply minoxidil to.

Couldn't care less tbh. Looks better on me. I also started shaving my hair short at the same time I started treatments, so the 2 people that commented on my hair looking darker have both said 'it must be because you shave it'. To which I just shrugged and said 'maybe'.

I wouldn't worry about it, unless your hair actually goes black or something (and you were really light before). There's no need to make excuses really, people's hair changes colour as they grow anyway.
