I've been on it for 2 weeks now, I'm 17 and don't have noticable hair loss. But minoxidil does say it prevents hair loss and helps keeping hair.

I use it twice a day. I was afraid of the side effects, but the only ones I have really noticed is tiredness and a very itchy scalp and then I woke up this morning. I used a mirror to show the back of my scalp and the crown looks a lot bigger than it has been. That really worried me, and I can thinning.

I really need advice on this please. Can minoxidil actually cause hair loss? Or am I being paranoid? Or is this a sign of it working??

Update! I have some pictures;

Re: minoxidil 5% causing hair loss?

minoxidil has been known to initially cause a shed to make room for new hair to grow. Go to minoxidil.com and read up on it. I believe it is in the FAQ section.

Re: minoxidil 5% causing hair loss?

yeah man minoxidil can cause shedding... says it right on the box...

But if you have no noticeable hairloss i dont know why you are on minoxidil....once you start you cant stop or lose all the hair you grew with minoxidil

i would stop minoxidil and just keep in eye on your hair

relax dude your 17 and shouldnt worry until you notice something

No, but possibly until better treatments come along. :)

Yeah i tend to agree at 17 far too young, but definatly keep a watchful eye.

I found a pic of me the other day when I was 17-18 and had the most amazing head of hair can only be described as a mop on top of my head at I thought when I was 19-21 years old that my hairline had decreased but turned into an adult hairline/

Was wrong lol was just loosing hairs by 23-24 thats when it got too thin and noticed it then and at 31 too late now.

I would advise just too keep an eye on it and consider nizoral shampoo if anything for now.... if hair loss is evident even in terms of the amount of hairs then consider the big 3 (nizoral shampoo/minoxidil foam/finasteride)
