So from having a dad that was pretty bald by the time he was 35-36, and I developed a receeding hairline in my late teens i can thank my lucky stars i made it past 34 with not too much hair loss.

I think i am nw2.5 with persistent forelock at this point. I included 2 pictures of very wet combed hair under harsh light around an inch long on top and one dry. I do have a thinner bit over my left temple.

Hair loss seems to be slow at the moment and im not on any meds and really dont want to take them.

What sort of prospects do guys around my age have, everyone i see that went bald was well gone by mid 30s.

I do expect more loss but just want opinions.

Meanwhile we have 18 year old guys on here who are NW3-4. Go be a NW1 somewhere else.
I appeciate your optimism in calling me nw1 but im no where near it. I have a thick low centre hairline which has never moved or thinned, you can see it in the picture from above. It grows out of my top forehead wrinkle. My temples are receeded and the left one is a bit thin, and my temple points are thin but were never very obvious.

I count my blessings i got this far with what i have. Im just wondering what the prospects are from here given my age

I've heard that once your temple points have thinned out, your hairloss should stabilize or atleast slow down. I think it's because the temple points are usually the least sensitive and while the temples recede the temple points stay in the same place. So if your temple points have thinned out bit you still have a lot of hair on top I don't think it'll get much worse.

Thanks for your input, I to have read this theory. Id say about 4 years ago i noticed my small temple points had thinned. I actually thought they would be completely gone within a year or 2 but they are actually still there. Maybe a third of their original density but they seem to have stabilised at this point. I do have a bit of thinning in the left temple but its a pretty slow process right now.

I'm actually surprised i made it this far with the history of balding on my dads side. I guess the more time that passes and i still have most of my hair I sort of feel its less likely i will develop severe hairloss but i may be wrong

Haha not really. I never had that i dont think but. I have suffered loss in the temples and temple points. Crown seems good though at the moment

Also im one of these men that still can barely grow a beard. It has slowly gotten stronger over the years and i can almost pull one off now. No chest or back hair either.

I thought the genes coming from your mother was discredited?

But my mums dad was actually more receeded than I am right now when he was 31 but it did not progress a huge amount after that point although it was thin when he died at 90. See picture age 31

My granny has thick hair age 86 and so does my mother age 56

Im beating my dad and maternal grandpa at the moment unless i catch up

There are genes on both sides that contribute, but the most important one comes from your mother.
Oh right. Well its hard to know where that will take me. Granny and mother have good thick hair if that counts.

Not really. What matters is more is your maternal grandfather and uncles. After that your dad and his brothers and father. The way genetics work nothing is a guarantee.

Well my only uncle on my moms side is half bald but my grandpa is only a step dad so means very little.

My dads brother is nw7, worse than my dads nw5 or 6. But his 2 sons are in their 40s and have full heads of hair like no temple loss nothing so they obviously got genes from mothers side

So how come its easier to pass the bald gene from grandad to mother to son, and not from dad to son?

Because the androgen receptor is on the X chromosome which males inherit from their mothers. That's what DHT binds to that causes inflammation and shortening of the anagen phase.

They say that when you get into your 30s with no signs of hair loss, it is less likely to hit you. But if it does hit you, it happens rapidly. And remember, hair loss meds don't work very often once you get into mid 30s.

Best way to elongate the anagen phase?

Your hairline is pristine, it’s impeccable, it’s magnificent. A man in his mid thirties with hair like this and you’re claiming to be a Norwood 2,5? I would throw @NorwoodingMyWay off a cliff to get half of that good hair my dude. Please close this page and go enjoy life, this forum is for the tortured and doomed only. Like, it’s enough torture for me to see guys like you out on the street, so I really have to see you here as well? Is there a place where I can be alone, away from hairy humans?

Hi mate, its not as good as you think. I can style it to cover it. Its thankfully just not changed much on 15 years. I expect it to get worse though
