Just a random thing I want to share with my balding buddies. The smartest person I know (shes a doctor that got a full medical scholarship 6 years ago) was over visiting and my friend was using the microwave. He openned it before it was done and still going. She looked at him and said" what are you doing? Youre going to go bald by 30 if you do that..trust me!" and he gave her this weird look, she shrugged her shoulders and said "bald by 30." Maybe some of you sciencey people can shed some light on this. I never heard anythign like this, but I've never known her to be wrong. At any rate, dont open the microwave before its done, it MIGHT not hurt, but it certainly cant help.

Well, first of all, is your friend thinning or ya know balding? If so, she could be saying that to scare him enough to never do it again, since the energy inside the microwave isn't good for anybody to be exposed to. If your friend is thinning, he knows he is thinning and it'll make him think. Ya also have to remember that doctors have to know about psychology and of course ......................women are never wrong  ........atleast that is what they think. Just a thought.

From a site on microwave ovens..." The standard also requires all ovens to have two independent interlock systems that stop the production of microwaves the moment the latch is released or the door opened. In addition, a monitoring system stops oven operation in case one or both of the interlock systems fail. The noise that many ovens continue to make after the door is open is usually the fan. The noise does not mean that microwaves are being produced. There is no residual radiation remaining after microwave production has stopped. In this regard a microwave oven is much like an electric light that stops glowing when it is turned off."

Even the smartest doctors (when talking in areas outside their training) will pass on "old wives tales" and rumors... she might have just been kidding : )

Right, that's what I was thinking. I'm sure microwave makers would make sure that opening the microwave would have a similar effect to hitting the off button.

I seem to remember an article somewhere about with early microwaves, they didn't dissapite all the residual microwaves if the door was opened. The only side-effects were a numb, tingly feeling in the hand, no hairloss as far as I can tell :)
